Middle name for a girl - Hope or Aurelia?

PhoebeC · 25/01/2013 10:35

We have chosen Rosa as our girl's name (I'm 37 weeks) because we both love it.

For a middle name we're torn between Hope and Aurelia.

A bit of background - this baby was over five years in the making and we had been told that there was almost no chance I woud ever conceive. It has not been an easy time and remaining hopeful and positive has been very important. My husband also says that my optimisim, resilience and ability to remain happy is something he values and admires greatly. If I could give my child one thing, it would be hope - hence the name choice.

Aurelia, on the other hand, is just a name we both love and think is utterly beautiful. It has no special association or meaning, but it is so lovely.

We're a bit worried that both names could be seen as pretentious and Hope could be taken to be a bit issue-y (we might as well call it Mummy's Little Miracle).

We don't dare try the names out in real life in case someone says something awful, so, umm, what do you all think?

Be kind, please, I'm extrememly hormonal.

All three names are very pretty. I think you need to say them together with your surname to find the best sounding combo.

I actually really like Aurelia Hope

I'm not sure Rosa Aurelia works somehow

Rosa Hope is better

But truly they are all pretty and congrats on your miracle baby I'm sure she will be perfect and lovely whatever you call her!

PandaNot · 25/01/2013 10:46

Rosa Hope sounds the best I think. Using Hope is fine. My friends dd is called Faith because she came to be in similar circumstances.

amazingmumof6 · 25/01/2013 10:47

we have an Elizabeth Grace and if we had another girl I would choose something like Felicity Joy or Verity Hope or similar, so yes go for Hope and she will be your little miracle, so that's very appropriate!

I don't see how anyone would have an issue with it!
I wouldn't care what they think, it's your baby, you can call her anything you like anyway.

And Hope is fantastic choice, especially given your story, I bet she'll love hearing the story of why she was given that name and she'll love it too!! !

I like Aurelia too, but Rosa Aurelia doesn't flow very well, sorry..

you could go for Rosamund Hope (sound beautiful) then call her Rosa

what do you think?

(and congrats!)

Thank you for the opinions and alternative first name suggestions. Rosa is definite, though, it has meaning for us beyond just being a pretty name.

I think I'm leaning towards Hope, but it's good to hear what people think.

Normally I don't like middle names for names like Rosa and Isla because they sound like rose of... Or isle of...

But in this case Rose of Hope would actually be a nice mistake (should anyone make it). And it's a lovely meaning. Perhaps save Aurelia for dd2 now that you have beaten the odds once already :) congratulations :)

NowPlayingZone · 25/01/2013 11:08

Ditch Rosa & go for Aurelia Hope or Hope Aurelia. Not that Rosa is bad, just prefer the other names. Congrats! X

PhoebeC · 26/01/2013 11:07

Thanks, but as I said, we're definitely not ditching Rosa.

Any more thoughts, anyone?

Rosa is lovely. And I love Aurelia because of Love Actually Grin But I am not sure either middle name is the best fit, to be perfectly honest. If I must choose one I think I prefer the flow of Rosa Aurelia - it is very lyrical. I appreciate your sentiments behind Hope but Rosa Hope sounds quite abrupt to my ear. Hope needs a longer first name IMO.

CruCru · 26/01/2013 13:46

I met a Zambian called Blessing once. Perhaps that would be a funny middle name in the UK though.

happy2bhomely · 26/01/2013 13:56

We are most likely going for Rosa too. I love it. I like both of the other names but I don't think either or them go particularly well with Rosa.

We are probably going for Rosa Frances. I think Rosa Hope sounds quite hard, and Rosa Aurelia has too many 'a' sounds.

QuietNinjaTardis · 26/01/2013 13:59

Congratulations! Why not go for Rosa Aurelia Hope think it sounds lovely woth hope on the end or if you only want one middle name then definitely Rosa Hope.

CarriMarie · 26/01/2013 15:39

Rosa Aurelie seems to low better.

CarriMarie · 26/01/2013 15:39
  • flow !
GoldPlatedNineDoors · 26/01/2013 15:42

All? Rosa Hope Aurelia Surname.

Tbh, how often is a full name used except.on forms or the birth announcement?

Ficidy · 26/01/2013 16:21

We've had a long journey too, so I understand where you're coming from. I think Hope is what your heart is telling you to use. Rosa Hope is lovely.

DessieLou · 26/01/2013 19:05

Rosa hope is lovely! I agree that Rosa Aurelia doesn't sound good. Congratulations!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 26/01/2013 20:30

I agree - Rosa Hope has a better ring to it although I think Aurelian is beautiful. We're planning on using Faith as a middle name for our expected DD because we TTC'd for over 2 1/2 years ourselves.

Mellymog · 26/01/2013 20:35

Another vote for Hope here /emo/te/4.gif

pigletpower · 26/01/2013 21:33

We have a Hattie Hope and a Felicity Faith.

pigletpower · 26/01/2013 21:35

Rosa Hope sounds lovely. Aurelia Faith sound good too.

CooEeeEldridge · 26/01/2013 21:39

Can you have all 3? Rosa Aurelia Hope? I think that sounds lovely, but I don't know about the 'ol 3 name etiquette? All three are beautiful though!

mathanxiety · 27/01/2013 03:40

I love Rosa Aurelia and also Rosa Hope, but I too wonder if you would use all three?
Rosa Aurelia Hope?

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/01/2013 20:05

I prefer Aurelia but I think Hope sounds better with Rosa.
