help me fall in love with my son's name again!

I apologise to start with cause this is my 1st thread. I need help in falling in love with my son's name 'Oliver' again. When i was pregnant, my husband and i couldnt agree on a boys' name and this was the only one we both liked, so we went for it. I have since had feelings of regret for choosing this name.

First of all, I found out afterwards, this name was the most popular that particular year. Although i don't mind using popular names for my children, I hate the thought of having 5 other boys in my son's class with the same name.

Secondly, and most importantly, my little girl is called Molly (shock horror)! I think i have been taking the comments on here to heart regarding similar names for siblings as I've read a lot of people see them as cringe-worthy. i insist on NOT using Olly, but always Oliver so we don't get confused and i really hope teachers and friends will do the same as he gets older. however, i'm starting to regret choosing Oliver (as a bro to Molly).

Please reasure me that this is a good name and if used as Oliver, is fine as a sibling to Molly. I just need some positive vibes from you all, so i can fall in love with this name again. :)

Don't be so daft! You love your sin you love his name! I couldn't see the connection with Molly until u pointed it out. It's cute and really no big deal!

It's a lovely name. I would be a bit concerned about the olly/Molly thing because as he gets older you won't be able to control what he gets called, and he might want to take the nickname. But you know what, I doubt any one will get confused.

Oliver is a lovely, lovely name.

I would never have thought of the problem with Molly, you may be overthinking?

I like Oliver, it's a really cute, classic name. It might be top ten but I've never met one (boys round these parts are more likely to be called Wilfred or Ptolemy, seriously). I think it's a really smart choice.

They are both gorgeous names, and although Oliver is popular, I only know of 1, and I know lots of babies!

If you always call him Oliver, then Oliver and Molly sound lovely together, and to be honest I think Ollie and Molly sound quite cool too! But they are individual people and so most people won't refer to them as a sibling set.

I think too much reading on here is a bad thing.... My son's name is often called pretentious/posh on here, and even though I love it, I get really upset reading those opinions... Silly I know!

So stop worrying, they are fab names and they sound fine together!!

Oliver is a lovely name, I really like it. My friends brother and sister are called Mollyand Olly. It doesn't bother them.

I think Oliver is a gorgeous name I don't know any. Oh and I didn't get the Molly Olly thing until you pointed it out.

Oliver is a lovely name and I'm not just saying that. It's one of DD's friends little brother's names and I've always liked it.

It won't date anything like as quickly as Archie and Finley.

As for Olly, if he always uses Oliver others mostly will too.

I always go by my short form and my sister does as an adult. She absolutely never did as a child, because she never used it herself.

DD2 goes by both as I don't shorten her name and she does.

It is a nice name. Personally I think the Olly / Molly issue isn't ideal, but if you love your childrens' names, then that is what matters most! Does your son have a middle name you could use instead (and love)?

If it's any consolation, there isn't a single child called Oliver at either of my DC's schools. So it may be in the top 10, but that doesn't mean you will come across them!

You can change his name.
Once you realise that, you may now think you dont want to.
Or at least knowing you have the option anytime, or even him himself in later years, means you should now feel better about it all.

Its a lovely name and I would never have thought of the Olly/molly issue!

thank you so much for your positive comments. Its good to hear a lot of people don't automatically make the Molly and Oliver/ Molly and Olly connection. I am over-thinking the whole thing. I have been reading on here that sibling rhyming names is a big No No. (I do also find it a bit cringey) but the fact that most peeps don't make that connection is really positive for me. At the end of the day, Molly and Oliver sound good together and Oliver doesn't have to be shortened to Olly. (Unless he really wants to later in life). Thank you. you've restored my faith in my kiddies' names. :)

I love both Molly & Oliver. I agree with everyone else, if you use Oliver then everyone else will, I can garantee that he'll get called Ollie at school though. I only know 1 Oliver, he's about 7 years old and another due in a few weeks! :D but I actually think Molly & Ollie is quite cute together, although I like cute names. I've got a Daisy & Charlie (known on here as twee, and too cutesy!!) but take no notice of people's opinions, you picked his name because you liked it when he was born, so its part of him now. I think you've got fab taste in names xx

I think you should refer to your daughter as Moliver from now on.
