I need help.... Currently only 16 weeks pg but it was such a mare finding a name for ds that both dh and I could agree on that I thought I'd do a bit of research beforehand. I think we're after something short and snappy but classic. Don't want anything too popular (probably not top 10) but don't particularly care about being wildly original.

Not going to find out the sex beforehand and just to start you off, if this one's a girl we're pretty sure we'll call her Dora. Help!

Sorry, forgot to say that anything Scottish or Irish is probably out... Dh is Irish, so dc are too... They'll no doubt have Irish middle names to honour family members, and they'll have Ds's surname (which looks very Scottish, but isn't). Tis a minefield.

Victor? We were going to use this, loved how grown up the full version is and then there's the shorter punky Vic, but when ds was born it really didn't suit him! Still love it though.

Harbottle is a classic - Elizabethan.

Thank you everyone. Some great names here - including Ds's (and DH's and db's for that matter!).

My faves so far: Nate (vetoed by dh), Sam (ditto, but doesn't really go with our surname unfortunately) and Victor.

I love victor, but am likely to shorten to Vic... Already have a Luke. Perhaps too similar?

Would love to hear any other suggestions.

Just to say love love love Dora!

shockers · 19/01/2013 23:23

My favourite boys's names are Jude, Edward (Eddie, Ed) and Toby.

I know one of each, I liked the names before I met them, but the boys are all lovely, which makes me surer of the names.

(none of them are my children!)

If you like Victor how about Vincent?

LPplusOne · 21/01/2013 04:51

I wouldn't see any issue with having a Luke and a Vic - they are very different names and both have very distinct, individual beginning consonant sounds. A lovely pair!
