For DD3: Freya, Isla, Iona, Carys, Cora or any others please!

DD's 1 & 2 both have gaelic/ celtic names and we would like to continue along similar lines...

We live in a part of Scotland where gaelic/ celtic names are the norm so no worries about pronounciation etc.

DD3 due any day now - Please help!

I also live in Scotland and really like Isla and Iona but both I think depend on surname because they run through and can sound a bit silly eg if your surname is Smith... Iona smith sound like I own a smith and Isla smith says isle of smith.

Carys is welsh is it not? Haven't heard of it in Scotland so it would be more unusual. Cora sounds very grown up pretty but not very little girlish

My dd2 is Carys so out of the names you mentioned I'd def go for that one! People always comment that it is a lovely name.

Freya is Germanic and Cora is Greek in origin - is it more celticy-sounding names you are looking for?

I like Cora best of all your choices. I think it would suit a baby and is a v cool name to grow into too. I don't know any Coras so seems to be under used too.

We love Cara but it's already taken within the family (although not so close family that Cora would be inappropriate).

Badtime - yes we started with soley gaelic/ celtic names then broadened the net wider, hence Cora and Freya!

Cora is DH favourite, don't know why I'm apprehensive about using it though...

Do you think Carys is OK to use outside Wales?? That's my concern with that one.

Do you think Iona sounds harsh?

no connection with wales live in northern lreland but liked the name carys so would not worry about not being from wales if you like the name go with it so hard at times to all agree on a name ! good luck

Cora and carys were on my list for dd but also love Iona so any of those get my vote!

Iona= don't like it. Sound like "I own a..." v careful with surname!

Carys= love it, was on my list

Cora= like it

Isla & Freya DDs names so obviously I like 'em!

Freya, Isla, Iona and Cara were all on our shortlist - we went with Niamh in the end (Irish background). Looking at DD, she could easily have been a Freya though! Love Freya and Iona most from your list.

I love "Freya" (my daughter's name) and I have a daughter called Lily. Love Isla, and some of my favourites (though not Gaelic): Annika,Sasha, Saskia, Ruby.

I did suggest Angharad (beloved) to DH, but he turned it into anhydrous - stupid chemist that he is. So perhaps that doesn't work outside Wales

Carys is lovely. Prettier than Cora IMHO.

I know 3 little girls called Isla, all under 2. Freya also v popular round here.

I like Cora out of your choices - not too popular but still a lovely name. I dont automatically think of it as Scottish though ((and I am Scottish) so depends a bit how it fits with your other children's names.

Funny our kids are educated in Gaelic and we used to live in a very Gaelic speaking area, but I know a huge amount more about boys names (even though I've got 2xdd, 1xds). Think it because where we lived, girls names tended to go down the add -ina or -a route even now, I taught murdina, donalda, donaldina, roberta and also a shedload of Jessies!

Thanks. Our 2DD's names are both mentioned above, as are all my nieces names. I think we'll just have to wait and see what she looks like as still no closer to agreeing on a name.
