I like it- nice combination of sounds. Know a Lydia ( aged 20) who is a lovely young woman so predisposed to think well of it.
Ignore others ( except me of course) and follow your instincts.

AgathaTrunchbull · 16/01/2013 10:44

Sounds fine to me! Have they explained why they hate it?

Frikadellen · 16/01/2013 11:24

Perfectly fine and non offensive so I cant see why they hate it.

Never, ever, ever tell you family what you are thinking of naming your DC. My bf was put off the name she loved by her family and still regrets calling her DS by another name 9 years later.

They had their turn when they named you, now its your turn Smile

I know an 8 year old Lydia, and she is a lovely girl, so I like the name.

Also sounds great with your other names - go for it!

WhiteHairReally · 16/01/2013 23:04

The fact it rhymes with a STI has made me a little chary of the name Lydia.

Just ignore me. Just ignore me. Just ignore me.

Devora · 16/01/2013 23:08

I think Lydia is a lovely name, and goes very well with Holmes.

alexpolismum · 17/01/2013 07:58

I love the name Lydia!

It's a beautiful name. I used to have a friend called Lydia. She never shortened it, was never Lyddy or anything, always just Lydia. So you never know how it will go when it comes to nicknames.

wiltingfast · 17/01/2013 23:11

Was Lydia the tattoed lady?! (Muppets)

NeedlesCuties · 18/01/2013 14:22

wilting you're right! Firstly it was Groucho Marx.

MadBusLady · 18/01/2013 15:29

I like Lydia. And I think it's very sprinkled across the generations so it doesn't date to any particular. The whole name flows together really well.

Hard put to see how anyone could "hate" it, even if it's not their favourite. Confused

MadBusLady · 18/01/2013 15:29

any particular time, that should say. Brain all snowed up.

EvenIfYouSeeAPoppy · 18/01/2013 16:15

It's a lovely name.

atthewelles · 18/01/2013 16:45

I think Lydia is lovely, neither over-used or 'trying to be different'.

NowPlayingZone · 18/01/2013 17:10

Think you've got the combination just right & it sounds lovely to me. Agree that it's safer to not tell family & friends your choices- they'll all want their two penneth x

Mollydoggerson · 18/01/2013 18:07

I think the L in both first and second name makes it a bit of a mouthful, Lydia Holmes.

Startail · 18/01/2013 18:12

It flows fine.

Lydia just makes me think of those red and white checked French jam jar lids.

Very childish and the only one I know is a perfectly nice girl.
