We might have a girls' shortlist but now for the boys' names...

Thank you to people who previously helped with names - DP and I still don't always seem to share the same choices but we think we have a current shortlist if DC3 turns out to be a girl; these seem to be the front runners right now and we think we might use Alice as a middle name. Surname is 2 syllables and starts with L:

Celestine
Meredith
Seraphina
Genevieve
Evangeline

We already have 2DDs (Florence Amelie and Gabriella Eve).

But we have no ideas for names if this bump turns out to be a boy and we are not going to find out until it makes an appearance.

Suggestions please?

Meredith the nicest of the girls' names imho and goes really well with your dds' names.

Sebastian

Dysgu · 13/01/2013 20:49

Thank you - some interesting names to consider there.
The problem is that we don't really know what we want!

My 'rules' are:

  • no alliteration
  • not so common/popular that there are likely to be 2+ in a class
  • open to different shortenings

The names from the suggestions I think I like:
Sebastian
Nathaniel (like Nate)
Zachary (but is this too popular?)
Dominic (but we know one so can't use the name)
Vincent (but not sure about Vinnie)
Dexter
Gus (but would need a 'full' name)
Caspian (I doubt DP would like it though)
Alexander (I think I like this one!)
Jem (but would need a 'full' name and can't use James)
Rowan (but we know a Rohan - is this to close?)
Barnaby
Roland
Edmund (but not sure on Ed)
LOVE Kit (but not sure on Christopher)

Thank you for feedback on the girls names too - we are still undecided. Both DDs did not have names until after they arrived. We did not even have shortlists so we are planning ahead this time!

Yay! Somebody finally likes Roland! :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/01/2013 21:09

Jeremy with Jem as nn?

Dysgu · 13/01/2013 22:15

I like Jeremy but it is on the list of names we can't use (close friend).

Perhaps Jerome - although I have a close work colleague who has a son with that name...

Love all you girls names apart from Meredith. For boys how about
Reuben
Quentin
Sebastian
Magnus
Fabian

Dysgu · 13/01/2013 22:44

Thank you poppydaisy I like all those names:

Reuben (but can't use it - is the name of my mum's dog!)
Fabian (really like it - but not sure about two siblings with same initial!?)

I like Magnus and Quentin but not sure DP will.

I think we could agree on Sebastian - how popular is it becoming? Might need to check...

I know a Jem who's Jeremiah

Dysgu · 13/01/2013 22:49

Oooh - Jeremiah - I like that for a Jem. I wonder if DP would go for it?

I think Nicholas sounds nice with your girls names. And of you list Genevieve is lovely and sounds good with dd's.

mathanxiety · 15/01/2013 05:23

Seraphina and Genevieve are lovely with your other names imo.

I don't like:
Vincent
Dexter
Gus
Sebastian

Love the rest (including Roland)

Dysgu · 17/01/2013 20:44

We are still waiting for the perfect name to arrive!

Dessie we couldn't use Nicholas as I am the female version of that and it would just get too confusing.

I still love Genevieve but am struggling to like Gene/Jenny as a short form.

I also love Evangeline but could we use it as DD2's middle name is Eve?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 18/01/2013 05:33

How about:

Guinevere (I don't know if it would bother you to have two DDs with the same initial)
Vivienne
Vanessa
Sylvia
Aveline

(since you seem to like the V sound)

Or:
Rosalie
Miranda
Serena
Jemima
Josephine
Matilda
Caroline
Katherine
Tamsin
Beatrice

forgetmenots · 18/01/2013 09:33

Angus as full name for Gus, here's some others:

Elijah
Alasdair
Laurence
Percy (Percival)
Farquhar
Barnaby/ Barney
Henry
Albert
Arthur
Stanley
Spencer
Hugo
Tobias / Toby

Jonah (Joe)

amck5700 · 18/01/2013 11:13

Harold (Hal)

forgetmenots · 18/01/2013 11:17

Oooh amck I love Jonah!

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 18/01/2013 11:36

Alexander nn Sacha or Sandy
Monty
Isaac
Maxim

Dysgu · 18/01/2013 12:55

Ooh - there are some lovely names coming up here. I really think I like Guinevere although might have to think about having two DC with the same initial.

I also like the idea of using Sacha or even Sandy for an Alexander - if I can get over my thing about wanting shorter version to begin with same letter as full name IYKWIM.

I like Jonah but not sure about Joe (and is it a bit close to John which is name of ExH?)

Other names I like include: Miles, Hal (but with our surname which begins with L?), Guy, Elliot, Hugo, Spencer.

I love the name Laurence - but we couldn't do that as we have a Florence already Grin

I also like Sylvie, possibly Serena and Beatrice (but know my DMum thinks this is a Hmm name - although don't know exactly what she means by that!)

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions - I am not sure we struggled like this with DD1 and DD2 - although not sure we had really given their names much thought until after they actually arrived!

In response to a thread asking people to come back and announce what they chose...

DS arrived 6 weeks early on 14th March and we named him Evan David Nelson 'Surname'

This is a name with meaning as:
Evan = my DM's dad's name
David = DP's dad's name
Nelson = my dad's surname

Thanks for everyone who gave suggestions.
