Boys' names shortlist - do your worst!

Here is out shortlist. I'm almost 27 weeks with a DS so i know we have a while yet but names are fun!

These are the names I love that DH doesn't hate. I get priority this time as DH picked DD's name (Jennifer but usually gets Jenny).

What do you think? I'm a teacher so a lot of lovely names are a complete no-no and I've tried to avoid anything where we have four of them in a class.

Edward
Edmund
Frederick (possibly my favourite and Grandad's name)
Frank (I love Francis but DH doesn't)
Jonah (two J names a bad idea?)
George
Arthur
Theodore (if went for a NN it'd be Ted as we have loads of Alfies at my school).

I like all but Frank, much prefer Francis.

SpikyLikey · 03/01/2013 21:24

Francis with Frankie or Frank as a NN is good.

I quite like Arthur.

Theodore is Ok, but Theo is very popular and 'now'.

Not keen on the others at all.

SneezySnatcher · 03/01/2013 21:28

Meant we have loads of Theos at our school - not sure where the Alfie came from!

Not keen on Edmund and Jonah, I like the others, ESP Geoege and Theodore.

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 03/01/2013 22:37

I like all of them. Edmund, Jonah and Frederick propbably by favourites.

Franklin

Sirzy · 03/01/2013 22:41

I like them all except Edmund

Love Edward and Edmund.
Like Frederick and Fred but hate Freddy.
Frank - bloody awful, sorry but Francis is better.
Jonah - don't like it
George - no
Arthur - no
Theodore - okay

Boonyjinkies · 03/01/2013 22:54

Edward and Jonah for me.

newpencilcase · 03/01/2013 22:58

I am biased as I have a Frederick and an Arthur.

George was on my shortlist.

Fred is always called Fred (never Freddy) and is the only one in his school. Arthur is never shortened and I think there are two others in our village.

They both really suit their names and they work if they are being serious, mischievous or sweet.

Also on our list was Ernest (but I didn't like Ernie) and Albert.

Edward - bit dull
Edmund - too Blackadder
Frank (I love Francis but DH doesn't) - like this
Jonah (two J names a bad idea?) - too American
Theodore - again, quite American

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2013 22:59

Ernest is gorgeous (but agree that Ernie is awful).
Wilfred is nice.
I also really think that Horace and Terence are due a revival.
Or Roland.

forevergreek · 03/01/2013 23:22

Leonard
Lionel

RockabillyKitty · 03/01/2013 23:47

I love Frederick, would use it myself but my surname begins with a K and not sure I like the sound of them together.

Please don't go for Theodore - loads of Theo's about at the moment.

Ted can be a NN for Edward can't it?

Should we at some point have a boy, Edmund would be pretty near the top of my list. Have been told it's too Blackaddery ('Lord of the Privies'). Sad

Frederick's awesome. Fred is such a proper, solid name. George and Arthur similarly. Edward's fine.

Laurence?
Peter?
Nicholas?

SneezySnatcher · 04/01/2013 14:06

Agatha I do love Laurence, but DH has vetoed. Peter and Nicholas are family members!

Love Laurence too, like Jonah, Arthur and George - really dislike Francis, and nn Ted for Theodore (sorry).
