We have a John and am pregnant with No.2. We like Edward but a bit concerned that;

  1. Jedward will make a comeback;
  2. The names are a bit boring.
The only other names we both agree on are Vincent (which sounds AWFUL w surname), Gabriel and Joseph. Thoughts please!!!!!!!!

why not- they are lovely names and I would not have thought of Jedward until you mentioned it!!

Ham69 · 19/12/2012 07:20

No, no, no! Even if only one person made that connection i'd be mortified. What a couple of eejits! Joseph's a bit too similar to John. Gabriel is lovely.

HoHoHoHum · 19/12/2012 07:20

Joseph... LOVE the name, think John & Joseph sound lovely together!

HaveYourselfAMardyLittleXmas · 19/12/2012 07:24

I initially read the title without realising it was in baby names, and was wondering why anyone would suggest "doing" Jedward! Grin

The answer for me is no on both counts, I think.

Have you considered John Thomas? Xmas Wink

mummybare · 19/12/2012 07:35

Hmm, well my pick would be Joseph - I think it's lovely.

What worries me about Jedward is that they've done lots of kids' TV - and being young could potentially be doing that for a while (I know, perish the thought etc.), but if you love the names, I doubt many will make the connection. Just remember to introduce them as Edward and John. Xmas Wink

shoobidoo · 19/12/2012 09:46

I would avoid a) Jedward (John & Edward), b) similar initials (John & Joseph) so would choose Gabriel!

germinal · 20/12/2012 00:59

Thanks very much for your thoughts! Sounds like Jedward might be risky .... Gabriel is beautiful but a very good friend has just had a Gabriel and am a bit reluctant to use it, though will if I can't think of anything else Xmas Shock.

Any names similar?? I like gentle names for boys, classic but not popular. Easy surname to match with ....

Go for John and Edward, I live outside the UK and had to ask my sister who they were, but really if we avoided every crap celebrity name we'd be stuffed! Also, you're not intending to call them Jedward are you? So should be fine! Wink
Otherwise James should be off everybody's list due to the foul old Jimmy Saville...
Your child will make the name their own.

emmyloo2 · 20/12/2012 07:05

I would definitely go for it. My father's name is Edward John and so I love both names. They go perfectly together and honestly no one is even going to remember Jedward in a year's time.

AlexanderS · 20/12/2012 11:47

I think it's fine - they're two names that fit well together and have been paired together many times so the Jedward connection is not obvious (my grandad's name was John Edward).

krankykitty · 20/12/2012 21:18

Once they're not twins I'd think it's fine! Team Edward ;-)

GinSoakedMulberryBush · 20/12/2012 22:20

I think people would make the connection. By the time they're at school, Jedward will be long forgotten. OR they will be the new Ant and Dec. oh dear.

What about James?

Though i do like John&Edward!
