My dgs is 3 and had a Christmas card from a child in his class signed 'Effie'.
I wondered what it might be short for.I can only think of Euphemia!!!Surely not...

I used to know an Effie. She would be about 70 now, and it definitely wasn't short for anything.

I know you have found the answer, but it can also be Effracine (not sure of the spelling Eff-ra-cee-nee), which is a Greek name I think.
