classic but unusual boys names ... help

Bump has been nn Horatio, but not sure about it as it's quite a mouthful with no sensible shortenings. However we are now struggling to come up with something similar as we

A - don't agree on anything
B - have a very common surname so are hoping to avoid anything in the top 10 at least

I like Arthur, Dorian, Edward - (we cant use this one), you get the idea

I really like Nimrod but everyone is a bit as am I, but I still like it!

Alternatives gratefully considered or any suggestions for nn/shortenings for Horatio

I think Horatio is a great name. Cool, classic and not overused. I wouldn't shorten it but Harry is an obvious option.

If you're after an underused name (especially with a common surname) you probably won't want to shorten Horatio to Harry, THE most popular boys' name.

I really like Horatio. You could use the nn 'Ray' or 'T' (which would no doubt then turn into 'Mr. T' - a most awesome nn for a little boy!)

Raphael, Cassius and Hamish are also lovely names that have been mentioned.

Horatio from CSI gets called 'H'.

I think Horatio is rolls off the tongue easily so don't think it needs a nickname.

We had a kitten called Horatio which we shortened to Ray.

The youngest in the Treasure Seekers was Horatio shortened to H.O. I think.

Not that helpful. Was trying to remember the other Treasure Seekers for potential classic names but they were Oswald, Dickie and Noel so perhaps not that great. And Albert Next Door.

Horatio shortened to Ray is a great idea! I'd avoid shortening to Harry as there are so many already!
