Our surname is very difficult and starts with the letter 'U' (as my username might suggest!). I think this means that names we really love with vowels at the end (Milo, Arlo, Ivo) are out of the question but would love to hear thoughts on that. Other than that, we have:

Arthur (Artie)
Albert (Bertie)
Wilfrid (Wilf)
Otis (DH loves, i'm not sure I have the nerve!)

We were decided on Felix for quite a while until it was noted at my baby shower that his initials would be FU!

Thanks in advance x

Arthur is the best of the bunch.

DewDr0p · 07/12/2012 18:38

Like Arthur and Bertie best. Not so keen on Wilf.

Otis might be a grower Grin

LynetteScavo · 07/12/2012 18:39

Otis
Albert
Wilfred
Arthur

I know a child Otis, he's great!

I think you can have an o next to U. Milo Underwood for example is fine.

howcomes · 07/12/2012 18:40

Otis or Wilfred, there was a Wolfred at ds swim class last year

BarbieDahl · 07/12/2012 18:40

Arthur and Albert are also favourites for baby Cambridge
Don't like Wilf
Otis is ok
Love Felix, shame about FU

VickyU · 07/12/2012 18:44

Thanks so much everyone. Lynette - the problem with our surname is that the U is pronounced 'ewe' if that makes sense rather than 'Uh' as in Underwood!

I love all of them. Bertie & Arthur are my favourites Xmas Smile.

HDee · 07/12/2012 19:21

Otis isn't too awful, the other names are shit.

VickyU · 07/12/2012 19:25

Thanks so much for all of your opinions. Good and bad! it's so difficult isn't it as its so subjective but really great to hear what people think.

Otis is my favourite out of your list. In fact, I am surprised you consider it to be the risk choice.

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 07/12/2012 19:36

I think you can have a name finishing 'o' with a 'ewe' surname. For example Arlo Yewtree sounds fine. I love Ivor shortened to Ivo, would that work? All your other names are ok although I don't personally like Otis.

FriggFRIGG · 07/12/2012 20:33

I have an Arlo,Best Name Ever Wink

I think o U names would be fine really....

Arlo Ulysse
Ivo Ulysse
Milo Ulysse

Ivor Ulysse is an option perhaps? Shortened to Ivo?

Also like Bertie and Artie. Smile

katiecubs · 07/12/2012 22:43

Arthur.

I have a Felix though and love that more!

IwishyouaMerryChristmas · 07/12/2012 22:45

Otis makes me think of lifts.

Bertie and Wilf are my favourites from your list.

Slothlorien · 07/12/2012 22:46

Great names. Smile

forgetmenots · 08/12/2012 00:46

Love Milo and Arlo, and I think they are fine with a U surname, just not an O!

Like Bertie and Arthur, also like Archie if that makes it less Royal-potential! Not keen on Wilfrid, and Otis I like but it sounds like a young name to me, not sure if it would grow with him?... Good list, though, like your style.

PearlyWhites · 08/12/2012 12:24

Felixs reminds me if a cat

PearlyWhites · 08/12/2012 12:24

Of

StockingFilly · 08/12/2012 12:27

Love Otis. Arthur is sweet.

Wilfred is foul and try-hard.

scottishmummy · 08/12/2012 12:28

the nickname diminutives I don't like,too cutesy
like all the names
but Otis I like best

natsmum100 · 09/12/2012 14:12

Agree with other posters - names ending with o would go with surname beginning with U. Names ending with consonants may run into surname.

banterbus · 10/12/2012 22:05

love the name Otis!
