1 - Scarlett (pretty, and love nn Scar)
2 - Georgia (lovely but not keen on nn George - masculine)
3 - Ava ( beautiful but a bit too popular?)
4 - Ruby (again, popular)
5 - Alicia (just not keen)

1 - Reuben (love it)
2 - Alexander (lovely but a bit 'commonly used')
3 - Harry (done to death at the moment?!)
4 - Blake (nice, but reminds me of Fiedler-Civil, Amy Winehouse' husband)
5 - Ewan (do not like)

BOFingTheDude · 27/11/2012 16:13

Georgia- the others are nice but a bit over-used at the moment. Alexander- for same reasons. Plus you can sing "Call me Al" to him.

MrsBungleBear · 27/11/2012 16:17

Georgia and Scarlett for girls

Reuben for a boy. I quite like Alexander but find it a tad boring. Harry really is done to death. My 3yo DD has 6 friends called Harry (and a cousin) and all of them she refers to by their full name e.g. Harry Smith - there is no other way to differenciate between them at nursery.

MrsBungleBear · 27/11/2012 16:20

And my poor nephew writes his name as Harry C even in things like birthday cards etc. He is so used to having to write the first initial of his last name to separate him from the other Harry's in his class at school.

  1. Georgia
  2. Alicia (I think this is lovely but I tend to like names that can be pronounced and spelled in one way only; I would pronounce it uh-liss-ee-uh. I do not like the Aleesha pronunciation one bit. Alethea is pretty though.)
  3. Ava
  4. Ruby
  5. Scarlett (It sounds harsh to me.)
  1. Alexander
  2. Ewan
  3. Reuben
  4. Harry
  5. Blake

I like all your boys' names apart from Blake. Personally, I would not use Harry as it is so popular but that may not bother you.

nelly83 · 27/11/2012 16:51

Alicia - would be prn Al - is -ee-uh. I really dislike the Al eee sha prn. this is my main concern if we choose this name. I think too many people would say it wrong!

I am worried about the popularity of some of the names too. I think my Fave is Scarlett but i'm a bit worried that it is a bit harsh sounding? Georgia is DH fave as he loves the name Georgie BUT I have insisted on a 'proper' name on the BC!

I love Alexander nn either Alex or Xander but I cant shake the feeling that it might just be a bit boring? I love Reuben but for some reason i'm a bit worried about using it! cant quite put my finger on why tho!

This should be so much more fun than it is lol!!

Thanks for all your help so far - keep your opinions coming please :)

Girls:

Georgia (love Georgie too btw!)
Ruby
Ava
Scarlett
Alicia

Boys:
Reuben (Is on my list, but I feel a bit worried about using it too for some reason! Confused )
Alexander
Harry
Ewan
Blake (reminds me of Blake Carrington from Dynasty!)

PorkusEnormous · 27/11/2012 17:12

I thought Alicia was pronounced Al-ee-sha on first impressions!

buttercrumble · 27/11/2012 17:13

Ava and Alexander , by far the best.....

lottiegarbanzo · 27/11/2012 17:17

Like all your boys except Blake. Prefer Evan to Ewan. Really like Reuben and Alexander, though later is very popular.

Personally less keen on your girls, though Georgia has something cheerful about it. Ruby seemed very popular 5-10 years ago. Ava is lovely but maybe quite popular now.

PerryCombover · 27/11/2012 17:27

Ava is the only girls name not utterly done to death recently ( although I know 2 Ava's born recently)
Alice is better than all the A le c ah debates you will have
Reuben oi vey
Blake dynasty
Alex and Harry again, - seem very common
Ewan och a noo

Lyftiduft · 27/11/2012 17:27

Georgia
Alicia
Scarlett
Ava
Ruby

Alexander
Ewan
Harry
Reuben
Blake

strawberryswing · 27/11/2012 18:06

Georgia is my favourite. Probably because i'm biased (i have a Georgia) but it is such a beautiful name.

From your boys i absolutely love Reuben and Harry, though Reuben would have the edge :)

strawberryswing · 27/11/2012 18:08

Although my Georgia is usually a Georgie I also insisted on Georgia for the bc :)

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop · 27/11/2012 18:13

Georgia
Ava
Ruby
Scarlett
Alicia

Alexander
Harry
Reuben
Ewan
Blake

Mono1 · 27/11/2012 19:02

I love Alexander but then I'm Scottish and its a bit of a family name. Would you consider nn Sandy?
Or Alastair? It's the same derivative as Alexander with similar nicknames Ally or Al but just a bit different.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2012 19:37

Only like Scarlett from the girls' list. I love Alice but not Alicia.

Don't really like any of the boys' list, sorry. Really dislike Blake. Would pick Harry over any of the others, at a push.
