I really like this name but have not come across any baby or young Lilians at all - does this mean its bit too old fashioned? Does anyone know any young Lilians and do people generally like the name when they hear it?

1 but she is in Denmark and named after her great grandma (she must be 3 now)

Have you ever listened to the Archers? Am afraid that rules it out for me.

I love the name Lilian, think its beautiful. But the 2 I know (1baby 1 15 now) are both known as lily (despite parents wishes) which is very popular. That would be a factor for me.

I think it's a beautiful name but I've not come across it recently. I'd use it myself if there wasn't a family legend about Crazy Aunt Lillian who used to walk up the road collecting flowers from all the neighbour's gardens to present on arrival, still with roots attached! Confused

There are lots and lots and lots of Lilys. Its this generations Sarah.

Theas18 · 26/11/2012 16:34

No baby Lillians no. However She'll likely be a " lil" or " lilly" but the time she's finding nicknames, and Lily/lilly Lillie hyphen names are really common at the moment.

Just in case that bothers you

It's a lovely name. I know a new Lilith. Lillian is distinctive, yet not unusual sounding.

BellaTheGymnast · 26/11/2012 16:36

I know a Lillian who is 4. Beautiful name, but the popularity of Lily would put me off too.

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 26/11/2012 18:39

No I don't know any.

Sorry really not keen. It's on a par with Ivy, Evelyn and Edith.

MarzipanAnimal · 26/11/2012 18:49

I know a baby Lilliana. Very pretty and less old lady sounding I think

NorbertDentressangle · 26/11/2012 18:51

I know of one who must be about 10 now.

I think you'd be facing a constant battle to stop people abbreviating it to Lily though. Not sure if this a problem for you or not?

zxcv123 · 26/11/2012 18:55

I know a 10 year old Lilian, who has always been known as Lily. Her parents wanted her to have a more grown-up sounding name for her to use if she liked when she grew up; and that seems very sensible to me.

OwedToAutumn · 26/11/2012 18:55

"Old lady" names are all the rage. It's a very pretty name. Go for it!
