Is this name old fashioned now or a classic?

I like the name Megan but would like to find out how it is seen. I've only just recently started taking in an interest in names so don't know much at all! I've been looking at the stats but to be honest it doesn't seem to help me get much of an idea just how popular its been if you see what I mean! Has it ever been as popular as, say, Emily or Jessica are now?

I have read on here that Megan is seen as 90s name - is this right. I want to give DD a name that is timeless so would probably not choose it if this is the case. Or is Megan a classic?

I think Megan is generally quite well thought of on MN. Personally I think of it as a nineties name, just because I know a whole handful of Megan's born during that time.

I know a lot of Megans that are teenagers,i wouldnt say it was a classic.

I really don't like this and never understood its popularity. It's such an ugly sound with that hard g in the middle.

It's neither classic nor old fashioned, it's simply dated. Not badly, but dated nonetheless. Very late nineties as you say.

Probably timeless in Wales, otherwise a bit 80s-90s, likely to be friends with Hannah and Chloe I think.

As someone who grew up in Wales, I see it as a rather old fashioned name; I don't really understand its recent popularity. There are much prettier welsh names, such as Angharad, Carys, Catrin, Manon...

I like it - I'm an eighties Megan I know some says it's dated but I know Megans of all ages - not loads, it's not as common as everyone seems to think.

I actually like my name and don't understand the ugly perception of pirate. It works for a baby, child, teenager, adult and oap.

And as everyone on here seems to be obsessed with the "high court judge"test I can confirm that I have a professional job lol (not a judge though I'm afraid).

I like it when it's pronounced Meg-han but not Mee-gan and as I'm sure I'd spend half my life correcting people, I'd never use it!

I don't dislike it, but I've never understood it's popularity. There were lots of Megans and Laurens born in my niece's generation (mid-1990s).

Lots of Megans in their teens yes but I also know younger Megans it is not one I am surprised to hear at work (where I work with babies) Not a classic imo. I just checked and it was 26th in 2011 so still very much a popular name. have a look here to see its popularity.

I like Meg, as a nn for Margaret, love Maggie as a nn as well but dh wouldn't be swayed.
