Jack - where are they all??

So Ds2 on the way. DH has been campaigning for Jack as a name since DS1. I vetoed it for DS1 on the grounds it had been the most popular name for 10 years. Now that it's been knocked off the top spot by Jake (which was ironically on our short list last time), and because we are woefully short of boys names we like and agree on, Jack is in the frame. I know it's popular but I actually only know one adult and NO kids called Jack. Im guessing it must be a geographical thing. I live in SW London.

How many Jacks do you know and where do you live? Would really help with our decision. Thanks!

I only know one baby Jack. It is my favourite boys' name (today). I live in N London, but Jack lives in Surrey.

I live in the Scottish Highlands, and work with children and know only one Jack. I think it depends on your area, my dd's name is in the top ten and I'm still waiting to meet another one.

I live in the West Midlands, and there are tons.

I live in Melbourne and peoria tend to be far more adventurous name wise. Jack is one of the few names in our school of 500 that there are multiples of. There are two jacks in dd's class (the only double) and a Jap too which doesn't help and a fair few scattered through the school.

It's a nice name though. I do really like it and it's popularity has made it more classic than other similar names.

There's a baby Jack on my parents street, and one at NCT.

I have one. He's 3 and I know one other. We were concerned about how popular it supposedly is but haven't really met many others.

5+ years of teaching and only taught a handful of jacks.

It's our boy's name for soon to be born baby!

I work in the SE in a huge primary school of 700 and I know 4 Jacks.

None of my friends have a Jack.

None of my family are called Jack.

I'm in the south east and I have just counted ten that I can think of quickly. It must be a geographical thing. It's a lovely name though.

I have a Jack he's 17 now though and know a few around his age but don't know any under 5.

Off the top of my head, in the past few years 2 of my cousins, one colleague and one friend have all called their babies Jack. That's also spread across various parts of South London, Surrey and Leeds.

We have one or two, but older 10+, don't know any younger Jacks.

The youngest Jack I know is nearly 7. Tonnes age 12-13, though.

What about John? Jack was originally NN for John, too (Jack Kennedy).

Jack was traditionally a NN for John (think 'Importance of being Earnest') but now stands alone. I only know one I can think of. I love it and its on our short list!

FYI they think Jake has become more popular recently....because of Twilight

I have one, and he was one of 6 in his year at primary school. There were also 6 Harry's and 4 Oliver's. Can't say that it has ever bothered him, or me.

I know two aged five and one aged three.

Popularity is a strange thing; I know no Harrys, Olivers or Charlies but they must all be out there somewhere!

I live in East Anglia, and of the 120 kids at my DDs primary school 12 are called Jack. So 1 in 10 kids, 1 in 5 boys. They are all here, apparently.

I live in Nottingham. I know of 6 Jack's. There are 3 in my DD's class at nursery.

They are all here in the North East! I've been teaching for six years and every class I've taught has had at least two Jacks (honestly). My very first class had four (although one was a Jak).

This year at my school (two form entry, nearly 400 kids) every class has one Jack. Some have two or three.

If you go on the Office of National Statistics site, which has the top 100 names for each year, you can get the top ten for your area. Jack is top in NE but doesn't appear in London top ten at all (I have the lists as I'm pg with a DS this time)!

We have a Jack. He's 2 and there are no others at the groups we go to. Here (Leeds) all boys under 2 seem to be from the following list:

Alfie
Charlie
Oliver
Henry

I know at least three of all of those all under 2. Not to say Jack isn't still popular up here.... It is but all the ones I know are 10+
