I like all of the names below (although I'm sickening myself with them at the moment and DH is visibly bored of the conversation) and I don't want to ask people in RL their opinions as I've made that mistake before! What do you think of these and can you suggest anything along the same lines? Older DD is called Josephine. Thank you!

Eleanor
Martha
Meredith
Anna
Emma
Charlotte
Madeline

Our shortlist after all this (baby due any day!) was:

Martha Jane
or Charlotte Anne

Anna won't go with our surname sadly (too many n's) and DH ruled out the others.

We were 90% on Martha and then thanks to fb I see two other kids that have been given that name in the past 2 weeks! Are Charlotte and Martha really popular/common these days?

(I know, I should be celebrating NYE not stressing over this...)

Anna and Madeleine are lovely imo.

How about -

Pernilla
Leonora
Laurel
Lara
Katherine
Daphne
Astrid
Annabel
Honor
Beatrix/ Beatrice
Cecelia
Harriet
Tamsin
Alice
Theodora
Elsa
Tess

Charlotte and Martha are both quite popular where I am. I don't see the attraction of Martha at all.

Good choices, I'm biased but would say Charlotte. It's a great name to live with and offers a choice of nns, or none if you prefer.

It is quite popular but has been steadily so for a few years now, father rushing up the charts about 15 years ago. I think Martha is more fashionable right now, so there may be more on the way.

A rather pedantic comment on Charlotte Anne. Charlatan means fake. That may well not bother you and it's rare that both names are used anyway.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 01/01/2013 06:08

I have a Charlotte and I love the name. We dont shorten it but I like that she could call herself Charley when shes older if she wanted. A friend tried to shorten it to Lottie but I said no. shes strange anyway

Its not too popular round where I am but it has moved up into the top 20 since I named her 4 years ago.

Other names that I love from the suggestions made here are Elsa and Tamsin. Both were seriously considered for DD2.

From your list I love Eleanor. Definately goes with Josephine and matches the brief.

Dont really like Martha, sorry.

Martha Jane is lovely.
Neither Charlotte or Martha are overly popular - Martha might feel more popular as it has grown in popularity over the last few years whereas Charlotte is a classic that has always been fairly popular.
I think Martha and Josephine sound gorgeous together, Charlotte is a little more bland.
I would just go with what you prefer at this stage and not over-think it! good luck and let us know what you decide!

countrykitten · 01/01/2013 11:28

Martha is a gorgeous name and in my teaching career I have only ever taught one. She was very special and lovely so maybe that has influenced me! Charlottes are ten a penny these days but Anna is also lovely.

Not sure why your daughters' names have to 'go' with each other as others have suggested ....? Surely they are individuals not a box set?

staverton · 01/01/2013 11:49

Marianne (think marianne dashwood)
Louisa
Tabitha
Iris
Thea
Nina
Rosalind
Rosa
Dora

Thanks again everyone! Still dithering but thanks lottiegarbanzo for pointing out Charlatan, will definitely change the middle name if we go for Charlotte and I can't believe that we didn't notice that in my our hours of deliberating ( at this stage I think DH would call the child Rover just to stop me ambushing him with names ).

Laura
Violet
Marianne

I love Martha! Was going to say Martha or Eleanor from your original post. I also really like Charlotte, just not keen on Charlie which is why personally I would hesitate to use it. It is a lovely classic though.

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 01/01/2013 19:35

I love Josephine! I know its your older daughters name but just thought I'd say!

Is she always Josephine or does she use Josie/Jo etc too?

Just thinking about a a more 'formal' name next to a 'nickname' iyswim?

hurricanemum · 02/01/2013 22:15
