Medical Types- when you hear Douglas..

..do you think 'Pouch of Douglas'?
May be overthinking this a little, but DH and I were talking baby names for if we had another DS, and Douglas came up. He loves it, as do I- think it's a lovely strong name.
I'm wondering though, if the anatomical refererence will be an issue (or if his GP will be having a quiet titter to themselves).
Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

On an entirely unrelated front, growing up my hypothetical first dd was going to be called Amelia. Going to medical school ruined it.
Amelia = congenital absence of limb
Sad

I know what a pouch of Douglas is (not a medic) but only because I had scarring and adhesions in mine Grin I wouldn't associate a child's name with it though!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 18/11/2012 22:15

yep, all oldies will get it. i believe someone lost a tampon in theirs.

Lancrehotpot · 18/11/2012 22:25

Aitch Good ChristShock. Can that happen?

Blownin I do think of that when I see Amelia now, but it's not the first thing. Perhaps it'll be the same with Douglas.
Just don't want to be shouting his name in the supermarket with half the shop thinking 'I once read about somebody who lost a tampon in their Pouch of Douglas'
Or introduced to future MIL and she's thinking the same
Not sure nowGrin
It is a strapping name though.

yup I thought pouch but only because of mn

ReshapeWhileDamp · 18/11/2012 22:35

I only know what the Pouch of Douglas is because of MN! Grin But I'm pretty sure most people won't associate lost tampons with your new baby, no. My first association just now was Douglas Henshall, because I'd just been watching Crickley Hall.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 18/11/2012 22:50

if you DO go for douglas, and you should, because it IS a great name... i insist that you always refer to his nappy-changing bag as 'the pouch of douglas'.

Lancrehotpot · 19/11/2012 06:57

Reshape I'm pretty sure most people won't associate lost tampons with your new baby, no. Do you ever look at the strange things MN makes us type and think 'what on earth?'
AitchI will indeedGrin
quietlysuggests I think we will. It is top of the list and the only name we've both had the same enthusiasm for.
Thank you everyone.

My DS is Douglas and I had never heard of the Pouch of Douglas before 5 seconds ago. Also never heard of loosing a tampon in one either Shock despite being on MN for more years than I care to remember!

It's a great name. Go for it.
