Oak.

A good, strong, very English name, I thought. Unusual but beautiful. Incredible that it is not widely used. Very smug about landing on such a perfect name.

If I hadn't been so off my face on morphine and sleep-depravation post-birth I'd have legged it to the registry office then and there to make it official. A few days post natal, I realised that the top 100 names are popular for a reason, and the fact that Oak was not ranked among them spoke volumes.

See also: Bran, Heath, Prospero.

Hahahaha. Oak is a great name. Though I too am addled.

Savonarola · 05/11/2012 23:08

Is you surname Hunt? What a wonderful invocation!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 05/11/2012 23:16
Grin

Oak Hunt! Fabulous!

JollyGolightly · 05/11/2012 23:17

Actually, I like Oak! Never come across one though.

DS2 escaped being named Siegfried, but I still might entertain it for a 3rd boy.

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/11/2012 23:27

I love Bran! Tis a good Welsh name.

Azalea

so glad that got shot down.

B1ueberryJam · 05/11/2012 23:33

Oak? that's a joke Grin I've heard worse. I think Bran is worse.

MaryAstor · 05/11/2012 23:41

What's wrong with Azalea?

Hang on...

Loki for a boy. The Norse god of viking mischief or something. I was obsessed with Nordic names. I even considered Frig for a girl before remembering it was slang for a ladywank

kdiddy · 06/11/2012 00:29

Wolf. Heathcliffe. Marmaduke. DS had a lucky escape there (although I do secretly like Duke...!)

busty pmsl at Frig!!

VenusRising · 06/11/2012 00:55

Dara is the Irish for Oak. Lots of boys and now girls are called it in Ireland.
Unfortunately the Latin is Quercus. Not so good in the playground.

MrsRhettButler · 06/11/2012 01:02

I lurve Dara! I wanted Desiree but was told it was just a potato. Thanks MN Hmm

UltraBOF · 06/11/2012 01:03

Crying at Frig Grin

I think the most outlandish that I not-so-secretly like is Ignatius. It was my grandad's middle name (traditional Irish Catholic stock), and I love the cool factor of Iggy. Plus it would go really well with DP's surname. But I'm not having any more children, so the poor imaginary sod has been spared Grin.

CleansLate · 06/11/2012 01:05

Lysander (still like that name)
Agamemnon (DS1 dodged a bullet there)
Sindri (still like that one too actually!)

Oak is lovely. If I'd had girls I think I would've gone with nature names.

UltraBOF · 06/11/2012 01:13

CleansLate- while your baby names are certainly out there, your username is just genius, I love it Grin.

twolittlebundles · 06/11/2012 02:08

Rufus. I have no idea why now though...

LilBlondePessimist · 06/11/2012 02:13

Also crying at Frig here!

When I was pg with ds1, I wanted to name the baby Valentine, or Star. Almost had dh going along with me too because he felt so sorry for me (I was particularly ill). Also toyed with Satine (from moulin rouge). Thank god I had all boys, and a massive coming to my senses!! Grin

ripsishere · 06/11/2012 02:18

I wanted Eric for a boy. DH laughed the git.
He decided Trinity was a most excellent name for a girl. Luckily, I registered her and chose the only name we could agree on.
Pissing my pants at frig, it's almost as bad as DDs friend. she is called Minge.

CleansLate · 06/11/2012 02:20

~preens~

twolittlebundles · 06/11/2012 02:20

there is a locally made tv show about norse gods here (NZ) and I am certain there will be a number of Frig/Odin/Loki/Ullr(!!!)/Bragi/Olaf's about in the coming years as a result.

twolittlebundles · 06/11/2012 02:21

Minge. WTAF?!

ripsishere · 06/11/2012 02:32

Bear in mind we are currently in Malaysia.
There are a number of koks are her school too.
I love Minge. She's a nice girl too.

niceupthedance · 06/11/2012 03:10
