I think we have reached some name decisions...!

Boy: Rafferty (Raf or Raffy for short)

Girl we're still unsure of though, short list is currently:

Emmeline
Serena
Iona
Iris
Alexa

Thoughts, criticisms, praise etc most welcome.

Ooh, I love Emmeline. Was on my list but he was a boy.
Also love Kitty and Rafferty.

HappyBloodBlackPumpkinEater · 28/10/2012 09:46

Love all those names, op. I am one would say Waffety (or that's almost what it sounds like to some people) so couldn't choose it for my own.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 28/10/2012 09:47

I love Serena and Emmeline. Rafferty is fab for a boy too.

HappyBloodBlackPumpkinEater · 28/10/2012 09:47

Isn't Fenella usually pronounced fen-ool-a?

I don't like any of them. I suppose Rafferty is almost appealing. The others are inoffensive at best.
Kitty makes me cringe the most.

ivanapoo · 28/10/2012 12:21

Happy I think that might be Fionnula but I only know of one Fenella who pronounces it as seen so not entirely sure...

Thanks lljkk for your honesty ;) just out of interest what names do you like?

Fenella is nice though I would put it somewhat in the horsey camp.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/10/2012 14:59

Don't like Rafferty.

Like Emmeline; Iris is okay. Like Kitty as a nn. Don't like the others and really don't like Alexa. Fenella is horrible, sorry - but Nell is cute as nn maybe for Helena.

Mintyy · 28/10/2012 15:02

I'm another one who doesn't like Rafferty, sorry, but you did ask.

I like Iris best from your girls names.

HappyBloodBlackPumpkinEater · 28/10/2012 15:49

Ah! Thanks ivanapoo, have only met one Fionnula and I don't remember how it was spelt, but do remember it wasn't as I'd expected, or would have pronounced it if not told how to, iyswim.

roastdinner · 28/10/2012 17:29

Someone mentioned Fenella to me recently and it just conjured up images of contraceptive pill.
Love Iona and Rafferty.
Oh, and regarding someones comment on your choice of R name, you cannot base name choice on the possibilities of child having a speech impediment!

manicinsomniac · 28/10/2012 20:02

I quite like Rafferty. Never met one but it sounds posh in a funky, eccentric way.

Emmeline - It's okay, don't know any
Serena - don't like it, don't know any
Iona - nice, like it, only know one
Iris - really like it, don't know any
Alexa - love it, don't know any
Kitty - bit meh, it's ok, know lots
Fenella - like it. only know one (she is v horsey!) aged 12 who goes by Nella

Leonas · 02/11/2012 19:36

I love Iris - partner's surname starts with S so I don't think I could use it but it is lovely.

hiviolet · 03/11/2012 11:42

Iris is one of my favourite names, wanted it to be DD's middle name but as I chose her first name I had to let DH choose the middle name. If we have another girl it's definitely on my list Smile

sliceofcakenowplease · 05/11/2012 20:52

I love Rafferty, very unusual but lovely. Raffi or Raf are lovely nicknames!

Emmeline- adorable name for a little girl, but great for an adult. Loads of nicknames available depending on her personality- Emmie, Emma, Emme, Mel, Meena (as someone mentioned) Melina.

Serena- pretty name. I love it.

Iona- not too keen.

Iris- very elegant and pretty. Great name.

Alexa- Okay, not my choice, but pretty.

Kitty- lovely name!

Fenella (or however you say it)- nah. Hate the name. Love the name/nn Nell, although a bit old fashioned. Ellen, Eleanor/Elenor/Elinor, and sometimes Penelope (though I don't like that name at all). If you like the nn Nell not just Fenella though.

Out of the girls' names, I'd choose Emmeline, Serena or Iris. Sorry, I like all of them too much to choose- I have to remember them if I have DD2!

katiecubs · 08/11/2012 11:37

IRIS! love it.

I also love Emmeline but think it would be shortened to Em/Ems which is a bit dull.
