DH has vetoed this lovely welsh name so I give it to you all as a present:

Iolo
(pronouced a bit like Yollo)

OP posts:

MolotovBomb · 23/10/2012 10:13

I shall add to the gift-giving: you may all have Carmine and Sebastian. Too 'gay', apparently, according to my usually very open-minded DH ...

Popumpkin · 23/10/2012 10:28

Sebastian is also "too gay" for my DH Molotov, along with Elliot & Gabriel Hmm.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 23/10/2012 10:31

I love Sebastian.

Rhubarbgarden · 23/10/2012 10:33

I love Sebastian too. My dh said it was too 'Posh Boy'.

eBook · 23/10/2012 10:38

Yo-yo

DessieLou · 23/10/2012 14:14

I will also let you have Gabriel (too gay) and Rupert ('you're not giving birth to a bear'). Turns out it's a girl but you may have Madeleine (too posh...10 mins later he came up with Juliana!) and Ivy ('are we having a 90 year old?'). God help me. Confused

Morgansports · 23/10/2012 14:17

I will throw Cassell into the mix. What a gorgeous name for a baby, a little boy and a very sexy man.

chocolatetester1 · 23/10/2012 14:21

I donate Beatrice, Elizabeth and Rosina. I have 2 boys and shall not be having any more so have no further use for my fave girls names. (Silent melodramatic sob Grin).

HowlingOScara · 23/10/2012 14:27

Oh god no, not Cassell. I have a relative called that and he is anything but a sexy man...he's creepy with 70s pornstar style 'tache

I know a Iolo. He's a lovely chap.

StrawbRhi · 24/10/2012 13:00

You can all have my DH's suggestions of Lysander and Anvar as they will NEVER be used by us!

And sadly, the gift of Abraham, whos name was laughed out of town by our families Angry Still might use this, but lie up until we register him. If I actually have another child of course.

shinyblackgrape · 24/10/2012 13:09

Ooh... I love Sebastian. It's my lovely nephew's name.

I will donate Rory, Innes and Struan. Rory is my favourite ever but DH has vetoed these for DS (due in 5 weeks) on the basis that apparently Rory is the "name of an alcoholic". Struan is "made up" and Innes woukd be shortened to "Innit".

Oh.... I'll also donate Angus ("Aberdeen Angus") and Ben ("Ben-der" and "Ben-Dover").

As yiu can see, DH is very open minded Hmm

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 24/10/2012 13:11

Wasn't there a Iolo on one of the Springwatch progammes? A lovely Welsh chap.

My friend wanted to call her DS Rory, but she has a bit of lisp thing going on and she would have said Wowy.

MB34 · 24/10/2012 18:42

Iolo is on my DPs list of extremely welshy names and is the only one I could possibly tolerate. The only thing that puts me off is that teenagers are apparently saying it now as a sort of 'whatever' statement, as it stands for 'you only live once'.

But I suppose in a couple of years that phrase will be forgotten.

babyblabber · 24/10/2012 20:21

I'll donate Lola which I love but DH says is the name of a pre-operative transsexual or a Russian prostitute :(

MrsHBaby3 · 25/10/2012 14:22

I only seem to be able to make boys,so I donate Zara, Daisy and Amelia :)

Wafflenose · 25/10/2012 14:23

I donate Sennen.

I thought I was so clever, coming up with it years ago for a putative dc3, but we're not having any more!

Startailoforangeandgold · 25/10/2012 14:26

Rebecca, I'd have loved a little Becky, but she was DH's undeniably mad ex.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 25/10/2012 14:34

I always thought I'd have a Lysander. Loved A Midsummer Nights Dream as a child!

I want a Pablo. But I can't see DH going for it...he likes Harry. Everything is Harry. The lizard started as Harry, the puppy was almost Harry, the cat is Harry....

mymatemax · 25/10/2012 14:34

Waffle, I honestly read that as I donate Semen!

DH vetoed, Daisy its not a bloody cow
Barnaby - Not a bloody bear
Rufus - posh gay boy
anything else i suggested from the average & bland to the extreme was vetoed by dh. our dc were eventually given the only names dh didnt make a rude comment about

MrsHBaby3 · 25/10/2012 15:03

Waffle I also read Semen, lol! I like Sennen though, Sennen Cove in Cornwall is beautiful!

SomewhereInCanada · 25/10/2012 15:20

I donate Alexander. DH immediately shortened it to Sandy and it became a no-no as that's the name of MIL's dog.

For girls's names I donate anything starting with a V. Our surname starts with a D.

WitchesTit · 25/10/2012 15:37

You may have

Taliesin. (pronounced Tally-essin)

Oh it makes me weak at the knees but we are having a girl

minipie · 25/10/2012 15:56

I will give you all

Marianne - lovely but name of DH's bonkers friend

Bryony - I like but apparently it's too much like Brian

Rowan - doesn't work with our surname

Corin - love this name but will never get DH to agree

Digby - we are just not cool enough to use this Grin

shinyblackgrape · 25/10/2012 15:59

I luuuurrrve Marianne and Marianna! So many lovely girls names and hardly any nice boy ones - not helped by a hypercritical DH!

Sweetbee · 25/10/2012 16:39

With tears on my face I donate the following:

Dorothy (aka baby Dotty) - apparently no one will want to be her friend, esp boys

Mary-ann - apparently we are too British, ditto mary-jo, mary-lou, anna-marie etc etc. He won't even let me have Jolene. Years of loving country music gone to waste.

Rudolph (can you guess when ours is due?) - I thought 'ruddy' as the shortening was awesome for a little boy. DH practised his withering look.

Cherry - DH was very rude. Blush

Jasper - apparently a tribute to an excellent brummie comedian was unacceptable. Suggesting 'Casper' as a substitute was also rejected.

Please someone take them and give them to the adorable children they deserve!
