It's my friend's sur name and she and her sons seem to cope (she's never mentioned hating the name anyway)

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 18/10/2012 12:07

It is becoming popular, he will not be alone.

I wanted Rafe for a boy, (have two dds)

Ralph has the Judy Blume taint for me, but as others say that was looong ago.

backinaminute · 18/10/2012 13:19

I love love love it. I think it's a lovely name. I would use it myself if I could pronounce the letter R properly (I can see myself in ten years time shouting Walf without quite the impact I'd be hoping for).

TreeHuggerMum1 · 18/10/2012 13:25

Dare I say it - my gorgeous little 3 yo is a Ralph and his pet name is RaRa. I bloody loves it and so does everyone around here, think it depends on location more than anything.
We live in a nice part of the world where Ralph is considered very cool and certainly deosnt mean sickness or his winky lol.
Go for it!!

Rara! Cute.

Don't worry about the penis thing. Ii only remembered that when I read the thread and it's only going to be a few ladies of a certain age.

PickledFanjoCat · 18/10/2012 15:02

Unless kids are still reading that stuff? I doubt it!

duchesse · 18/10/2012 15:06

I know a 6 yo Ralph (pronounced Rafe). It really suits him- I can't think of him being anything else.

gymboywalton · 18/10/2012 15:07

ralph is michaels penis in forever by judy bloom
or it's an old man

GladbagsGold · 18/10/2012 15:11

Sorry, I'm of the Judy Blume generation, Ralph= penis for me too.

SoulTrain · 18/10/2012 15:15

It's a great name. Literally had not a clue about Judy Blume reference. My name is Nancy and that is slang for a camp gay man - people tend not to think I am a camp gay man.

If you love it and it feels right, please use it. I promise you in this day and age there will be far more bizzare names than that. He'll be dashing and fabulous with a name like that! Babies become whatever they're called anyway. Smile

thegreylady · 18/10/2012 15:52

I know a gorgeous three year old Ralph :-)

NoNameNeverMind · 19/10/2012 22:10

Really, absolutely no children these days read any Judy Blume (unless their parents still have their childhood copies) - they're barely findable in bookshops - so no problem there.

Ralph is a lovely name, whether it's pronounced Ral-ph or Rafe.
I have never heard of it being associated with vomiting either.

exoticfruits · 19/10/2012 22:15

To answer OP - yes it is.
