Ds due in two weeks we have a shortlist but Dont really love any.

Jacob
Gabriel
Jonah
Roman
Evan
Noah

If I really have to pick from those I will probably go with Jacob but I'm not excited by it like I was with DDs name - shes a Phoebe .

I really like Jonah. Boys' names are so much harder than girls!

Good luck!

ALittleBitOfMagic · 16/10/2012 21:25

Absolutely MJ if we were having a DD I could pick from about 10 names and be delighted to call her any of them !

But I just can't get excited about any boys names at all Sad and I really don't want to settle for a name I'm actually starting to proper panic now ! Sad

Oh but you've got a lovely shortlist! Love Evan, Gabriel and Noah - have you considered Felix, Ned or Hal...........

MJandherdog · 16/10/2012 21:34

You never know, when you meet him a name might just 'fit'...

What I like about Jonah is that it's a "proper" name (not faddy, surnamey, too American or too flouncy), it's traditional (not trendy), it's neither too popular nor too unusual to make people smirk, it's not too try-hard and it is great in full or as a nn (I like Joe, Jo-Jo).

Boys are a nuisance before they even get here!

I think I've talked myself into Jonah by the way...

BoyMeetsWorld · 16/10/2012 21:37

Hmmm you've got a lot of my favourites on there already (LOVE Jonah & Gabriel).

How about...
Reuben
Tristan
Eli
Isadore
Abel
Aaron
Amos
Gideon

I love Jonah and Noah. Personally I prefer boys names and think they're easier. It's girls names I struggle with!

AWomanCalledHorse · 16/10/2012 21:38

I dismissed DS's name very early on in pregnancy.
2 weeks after he was born, we decided it was the right one for him.
Like MJ says, you might meet him & decide he's a Gabriel!

Only name on your list I'm not sure of is Roman (he'll have to have a strong nose for it! and it makes me think of Polanski).

BoyMeetsWorld · 16/10/2012 21:38

I also love Japeth as a biblical alternative to Jacob

baskingseals · 16/10/2012 23:08

Jacob - lovely, very high up on my list because I love Jacob and Jake, don't even mind Jakey/Jay/JJ
Gabriel - lovely
Jonah - lovely
Roman - not keen
Evan - ok, but not my favourite
Noah - lovely, but a bit popular now

I think I'd go with either Jacob or Jonah, love them both. I find boys names difficult because there are sonn many ones I love. I find girls names are much harder, I'm considering just calling any future girls DD1, DD2, DD3 etc.

GreyElephant · 17/10/2012 09:29

DD1 has a friend called Phoebe, her brothers are called Guy and Nico (short for Nicolas) if that helps!

Gwennan · 17/10/2012 10:56

Love all your choices although perhaps a little less keen on Jonah and Roman. Any of them would be a fine choice.

If you want some additional names to consider, this is a list of male siblings of Phoebes whose births were announced in the Telegraph. You may like some of their picks!

Noticed someone recommended Hal. Please don't! My poor son spent his whole time spelling it out to people who couldn't hear what it was and if you ever end up in southeast Asia no one can say it. Though I still think it is a lovely name!
