Name for DD2 - thought we'd decided, but having a wobble....!

Hi,

I'm 30 weeks with DD2. DD1 (age 6) is Cecilia Rose (known almost exclusively as Cece). I originally had a list of possible names that I liked, but realised that none of them 'felt right' so left it for a while to have a think.

I realised that I picked DD1's name for lots of reasons (though I do love it) and as this is a very surprise pg and I never thought I'd get to choose another baby name, I just want to pick a name simply because I love it.

I came up with two contenders. First is India, which I really do love. When I suggested it to DH he just said 'that's not a proper name' and wasn't keen at all! It also doesn't go with our surname.
My other choice is Tara. I have no idea why, but this does 'feel right'. Though I know it's not, it seems like a nick name, so the plan was to call baby Tamara but use Tara as her everyday name. Middle name to be Jane.
DH is much more keen on this. I'd just like to say that although this post seems all about what I think and want, DH does have an input! It's just that he is so over the moon to be having another baby (when we didn't think it was possible) that he is ultimately happy to let me choose. He trusts my judgement!

So, Tamara (Tara) Jane. What do you think?

I love Tamara Jane! Tara was second choice for DD (1 next week) - I love that too.

I don't like it. I don't like Tamara or Tara (or India). Jane is a bit boring unless it has some meaning to you.

Doesn't matter what I think though, if you like it use it.

Tamara is infinitely better than Tara imo. Really not keen on Tara

I like Tamara, but not Tara. Tara sounds a bit made up and chavvy to me. India is fine.

I like it. Tamara goes well with Cecilia, Tara goes well with Cece and Jane makes a good middle name.

I do prefer India but it's obviously no good if your husband doesn't like it.

And congratulations on your surprise baby. Smile

Tara is a proper name. If you like it, have it.

I have 6 names for my children and I chose one. I was not really bothered about what they were called. I thought it would be a big deal and it wasn't so don't understand the angst that people put themselves through when chosing a name, though can understand for most people it is a huge decision. Relax. You like it. Have it.

Tara is a lovely name, its a tad different in as that you won't find many other children called Tara but not an out there name. I'm less keen on Tamara, why not just call her Tara Jane ?

Means Star in India and of course a big Irish name too.

Jane does have meaning to us, it's an old family friend's middle name (was like a grandmother to me and my sisters) and also my friend's middle name, who i'd love any daughter of mine to grow up to be like, so Jane is pretty much set in stone.
Although I think I prefer India to Tamara/Tara, I do know of two born in the last couple of years and have a feeling that in my area at least it could become very popular (and possibly a bit 'chavvy').

I just can't think of any others that I love!

My clever and charming niece is Tara and she's a delight. I've never heard of any chavvy connotations for the name so I think if you like it, you should use it. I'm not much of a fan of Tamara and as Tara isn't a nickname you wouldn't 'need' it unless you live it.

JustFab - Totally get what you're saying. I've had the name for a few weeks and hadn't thought of posting about it, as it was decided. However, this week I seem to have gone totally hormonal (close to tears a lot, almost had a meltdown at work) and had started to doubt it.

Dead - i really like Tamara itself and just thought it would give more options. Although it came to me from nowhere, when I looked into it I found that Tara meant 'star' in Indian and as DD2 is due 22nd Dec, I thought it was quite a nice Christmas connection, without being too obvious!

Congratulations on your surprise pregnancy.
I love the name of your DD1. I don't mind Tara and I know a lovely one. Probably of no help at all but have you thought about other names with 'star' meanings? I love Esther, Estelle and Polly and think either of those would go beautifully with DD1's name. If you really love Tamara/ Tara though, go for it. There's nothing at all wrong with the names, just not my style.

Tara most certainly isn't a nickname!! It's quite an early 80s name and due a revival.

Uncommon, easy to spell and has a couple of different international meanings. The Irish version is from the seat of the high kings of Ireland at Tara in Co. Meath (Teamhair in Irish - something like 'craggy rock'). In Hindi, Tara means 'star'.

It's a great name. Your daughter will definitely thank you! :D

I think tamara Jane with Tara as a nickname sounds lovely. No 'chavy' connotations for me whatsoever! Great choice. Grin

I love the name Tara but am biased as it is my dd's name.

I definitely prefer Tara to tamara. I don't like the Tammy shortening (which is quite prevalent, even if you choose to shorten to Tara, others may not).

Maybe I'm influenced by having a friend called Tara with a sister called Tammy. I don't see them as the same name iyswim.

Quite like India.

What about Tarryn? Similar to both - very pretty I think and goes well with Cecilia.

I love Tara though. More than Tamara I think. Don't think of it as chavvy or too popular.

At school in the 70s a Tamara in our class struggled with the similarity to tomorrow. EG lots of renditions of 'The sun'll come out, Tamara.' But, children will be vile so if you love it - use it.

I prefer India/Indie What about Arden Jane? (Arden means passionate as in ardently)

Not keen on Tara I prefer Lara. Which I think goes better with your first DDs name. India is quite sassy which I quite like.

Of course Tara is not chavvy.

DH wanted Tamara for DD2. I think it is a beautiful name. Go for it.
