I don't know if I would have liked it if I hadn't met a cute little girl with it a few years ago. Trying to work out if it's nice or too OTT

I love it and apart from the Princess, don't actually know any of any age.

LadyMetroland · 25/09/2012 22:25

It's never going to make the top 10! It's one of those mumsnet names that everyone on here says is popular but isn't really. There are probably pockets of popularity esp in London, but it's definitely not the next Olivia/Amelia/Isobel etc

ScrambledSmegs · 25/09/2012 22:32

I had a great aunt called Beatrice. Middle name Helena. Think it's beautiful, very graceful and old-time elegant.

lollystix · 25/09/2012 22:48

Lovely ...she will probably be called 'bea' though - which is not a bad thing.

Sinkingfeeling · 25/09/2012 23:10

It's our dd3's middle name (she's 7) but I've only heard of two other girls with that name since she's been born (one who's 9 and the other who's 20 months).

SilkStalkings · 26/09/2012 10:52

You could always insist on the Spanish version of nickname Béa if you wanted to avoid the Bee thig.

TittyWhistles · 26/09/2012 10:55

It's lovely. Paul mccartneys daughter is called Beatrice isn't she? The later one e had with that woman

wildpoppy · 26/09/2012 11:00

Nice. Know two under five.

Thank you for all these replies!

My DD is one and I know of 3 others, although one is a Beatrix. We're in West Yorkshire - so it's not just a London thing.
We say bee-ah-trice, but DD insists its bee-trice.

delilah88 · 26/09/2012 12:59

And does it bother you that it's so popular?

OP posts:
Beamur · 26/09/2012 13:04

I had no idea it was popular - we just liked the name if anything thought it wasnt popular! Grin But since DD started at school, there is another in her class, another one a couple of years older and I know of 2 babies born in the last year called Beatrice/Beatrix too.

dieciocho · 26/09/2012 13:05

We're hoping to use it too (or Beatriz) and, yes, we're in London....
I hope it isn't really that common.

delilah88 · 26/09/2012 13:22

Well I suppose it's quite nice that she knows other people with her name. It isn't in the top 100, it can't be that popular!

OP posts:
Beamur · 26/09/2012 13:36

It's a bit confusing as the other Beatrice is her best friend....

delilah88 · 26/09/2012 13:37

But it doesn't make you regret choosing it does it?
I had a best friend with my name when I was little, actually quite liked it. Especially as I had a 20% worry that my name was 'weird' (it's now in top 10!)

OP posts:
Beamur · 26/09/2012 14:17

Not at all - I still think it's a lovely name and it suits my little girl perfectly. I think the 2B's quite like their dual name status too.

zozzle · 26/09/2012 18:56

It's ok - very MC predictable IMVHO, like Florence. Not horrible though, prefer Beatrix.

Beamur · 26/09/2012 19:02

I think Beatrix is a slightly edgier spelling (if you want to be a bit less MC and predictable) Grin

zozzle · 26/09/2012 19:23

Yeah, go on people, be a bit less middle class and predictable!

zozzle · 26/09/2012 19:24

Sorry!

LuellaLovesLavender · 26/09/2012 20:44

I don't think it is that popular at all, does anyone know the baby name stats for last year....in 2010 there were 500! So that's not much really! I'm in Ireland and only ever heard of one person with the name and she is in her sixties!

HiHowAreYou · 26/09/2012 20:54

I know everyone else likes it. But I just don't.
