What comes to mind when you think of Amber, is it lovely or too chavvy?

I think it's lovely...much nicer than Jade or Ruby.

Sossiges · 25/09/2012 14:40

Traffic lights

BitOutOfPractice · 25/09/2012 14:50

Sossiges my DD once said to me in the car "Hurry up mom before the lights turn ginger" Grin

CachuHwch · 25/09/2012 14:52

It makes me think of very wholesome but annoying American blonde girls. Cheerleader types.
LOADS of them here at the mo...

mum47 · 25/09/2012 14:53

My three year old niece is called Amber. She is a little spitfire and it suits her beautifully. I love it!

IWipeArses · 25/09/2012 15:17

Isn't Amber the horrible bitch in Hairspray?

peanutMD · 25/09/2012 15:21

Classic and pretty without sounding pretentious or old fashioned.

I love the name but our surname begins with B so it sounded too B'ish if that makes any sense :o

MrsJohnDeere · 25/09/2012 15:48

Not keen. To me it is very much in the same camp as Ruby, Scarlett, Jade.

lisaro · 25/09/2012 15:58

Certainly not as bad as 'Jade'.

peanutMD · 25/09/2012 16:05

See I hear Jade I think Goody and that is never a good thing!

YellowWellies · 25/09/2012 16:05

I reminds me of a dog's name... the sort of thing you'd call a labrador. Sorry!

FrothyOM · 25/09/2012 16:46

I like it but I may be biased Wink

mathanxiety · 25/09/2012 19:56

I agree, same category as Ruby, Scarlet and Jade.

In the US it's in the same boat as Tiffany, Brittany and names ending in I that should be spelled with a Y. If you think Barbie is a cool role model for girls then Amber is the name for your DD.

SandStorm · 25/09/2012 19:58

It reminds me of DDs best friend - she's a lovely girl.

midgetjones · 25/09/2012 22:04

I always imagine an Amber to be blonde.

scentednappyhag · 25/09/2012 22:08

It reminds me of Clueless Grin for that reason alone, I love it. But yeah, I do think it's a lovely name.

Greenwing · 26/09/2012 13:48

Makes me think first of red, amber, green as in traffic lights.

Also Ambergris (a waxy substance of a dull gray colour produced in the digestive system of and regurgitated or defecated by sperm whales, used in perfume.)

Both rather put me off, but that's only my take on it.
The fossilized tree resin is very pretty!

controlpantsandgladrags · 26/09/2012 18:55

I like it but it sounds hideous in a midlands accent...am-bah. I know one and it makes my ears hurt every time anyone says it!
