We like all of these, surname begins with Z. What do you think?

Asher
Solomon
Albert
are my favourites.

I'm not keen on Artie, Albie, Aflie at all, sorry.

TudorJess · 14/09/2012 12:17

In order of preference

  1. Albert
  2. Solomon
  3. Alfred
  4. Ashley
  5. Asher
  6. Arthur
rachel234 · 14/09/2012 13:03

Asher and Solomon are lovely!

Ashley sounds feminine and Artie, Alfie, Arty are a little overdone imo.

MolotovBomb · 14/09/2012 14:23

Soloman NN Sol wins it for me! 'Sol' is another name for the sun, isn't it?

Lovely :)

MolotovBomb · 14/09/2012 14:24

Sorry, Solomon

CondoleezzaRiceKrispies · 14/09/2012 14:25

Love Asher and Sol. Both on list for hypothetical future DS.

bigbluebump · 14/09/2012 14:40

Asher is lovely! Solomon is nice too.

Really not keen on Alfred (Alfie), Arthur (Artie), Albert (Albie), sorry.

suspiria · 14/09/2012 18:03

Solomon and Asher are fantastic names, lovely choices.

deleted203 · 14/09/2012 18:06

Best advice for baby names is to pick what you like and refuse to tell anyone beforehand, lol. If you say 'we're thinking of calling him Cecil' people will scream at you, going, 'OMG - that's hideous! Seriously - you can't call a child that!' If, however you produce child and say proudly, 'We've named him Montmorency Claud' most people will gulp and say politely, 'Gosh...how unusual. Is it a family name?' Wink.

anamaria22 · 14/09/2012 23:00

Solomon is a lovely name - that would be my favourite from your list.

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 23:02

love Asher, and it would sound great with a Z surname.

crazynanna · 14/09/2012 23:03

My grandson is Asher...so obviously it's the best one on the list Wink

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 23:06

also the A to Z thing is good....
like alpha and omega (Aristotle Onassis)

LemonLovesLilac · 15/09/2012 22:16

Asher or Solomon

mathanxiety · 16/09/2012 06:03

Solomon
Asher

Albert only if Bertie is the nn. Albie is a bit wet.

Arthur
Alfred

Ashley - you can't do this to a boy. It's barely acceptable for girls.

mathanxiety · 16/09/2012 06:05

that was in order of preference. Arthur, Alfred and Ashley are not in the same league as the top three imo. Solomon and Asher are great. Albert good with Bertie as nn.

newby2 · 16/09/2012 07:01

Hello, thanks for every-one's help. I'm really surprised that Solomon has come at the top (not surprised at Asher) Pretty much every-one that I say Solomon to hates it!

Good points all about wet nn's. Food for thought.

Albert is just as likely to be Al or Bertie and Alfred could easily be Alfie. So if you hate those variants I'd avoid those too.

I like Alfred best, myself.

ValiumQueen · 16/09/2012 13:34

I have a girl Asha, and DS is likely to be a Solomon, so either are fab IMO.

newby2 · 16/09/2012 15:10

Valium, how lovely! Good taste and I like the spelling of Asha too.

My favourite is Arthur (but not keen on Arty).

I quite like Asher. Albie is sweet, but very popular and a bit 'current'.

I know a little Solomon and he's very sweet so I'm a bit biased on that one.

Alfred and Ashley are both awful. Though I quite like Freddie as a nn.

ValiumQueen · 16/09/2012 15:20

Thank you! I think it is Asha for girl, Asher for boy. Her NN at school is Asha Basha, which is not based on her behaviour honest.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/09/2012 16:16
  1. Albert - no
  2. Solomon - no but how about Simeon?
  3. Alfred - no
  4. Ashley - yes
  5. Asher - love this: would have been both dds' middle name, had they been ds
  6. Arthur - no
Arwhen · 16/09/2012 19:17

Love Albert, Arthur and Alfred but not keen on the cutesy nicknames. Ashley too feminine, Asher is ok and Solomon would bee a bit too out there for me.

bananaramma · 17/09/2012 15:09

I think Solomon is the nicest - classy, manly and not overused. Sol is a cool nickname.

Asher is ok, would be my second choice.

Don't like Albert/Albie, Arthur/Artie or Ashley much, sorry.
