I just posted asking about the spelling of Bay for a boy or girl but replies seem to be not using it for girl so I'm now really confused.........
I'm waiting for number 4 but have no idea it's gender so please can you help me find a beautiful but very unusual girls name, my other DCs have names I've never heard of but they are not silly they are 8 yr old twins and an 11 year old who have never had problems with their names so would like something unusual??
Any ideas please?
I'm loving Nell after my nan who was called Nellie but not sure if it's unusual enough, I only know one other but she lives miles away!

That is so weird, I was just thinking I love the name Nell, wonder if I read your post without registering as I am a bit dozy this morning Hmm. Anyway, I like Nell, but you're right, it is not that unusual. But don't get hung up on unusual, one of our boys has a non-weird but really nice, not frequently heard name ad it is a classic.

MarcelleBabies · 12/09/2012 12:46

Nell is a beautiful name for a girl, i think about it a lot, hopefully my next one will be a girl! My name's Marcelle and that's an unusual girl's name... Although I prefer my sister's- Camille. Both french of course

MarcelleBabies · 12/09/2012 13:05

Oh and saw a book the other day called Celandine - the female heroine. I loved it

waitingimpatiently · 12/09/2012 21:06

My daughter is Flora. We had a lot of controversy with it really but everyone got used to it and now agree that it is beautiful. If you like the name Bay for a girl you go for it, people will get over it!! I always liked the name Noah for a girl an Aoife (which I couldn't use for this baby because 1. It's a boy and 2. Some celebrity recently called their baby Aoife and I'm funny like that...)

manicinsomniac · 13/09/2012 01:25

I know a lady called Bey. She's from Malaysia. I've never asked her if it's short for anything.

These names were given to just 3 babies in the whole of 2011:
Abriella, Adelyn, Aerin, Aileen, Alora, Alva, Annis, Aphina, Atara, Atifa, Blair, Blue, Brenda, Briar, Brunella, Calliope, Camden, Camelia, Candace, Clemency, Coleen, Comfort, Darby, Deandra, Dusty, Edna, Enna, Eshana, Eshita, Falon, Fortuna, Gemini, Gillian, Giulietta, Griselda, Guinevere, Hero, Ilsa, Ishbel, Jennica, Jenita

WIll finish tommorow, battery dying

Just wanted to say that I know a little girl called Bay - she's a cutie and it suits her down to the ground. I say go for it!

BonzaBlue · 13/09/2012 04:06

The weather guy here in Australia, has a daughter called Sailor, I quite like that!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 13/09/2012 10:01

Ilsa? I wonder if someone (3 people??) just spelled Isla wrong?! :o

Yourefired · 13/09/2012 10:07

Ianthe. I wanted to use but DH vetoed. Ended up with a top ten name, how boring. Good luck with your pregnancy.

booklava · 13/09/2012 10:11

My DD1 is Matya I've never heard of another one ever Grin

ByTheWay1 · 13/09/2012 10:12

Ilsa is a common name where I am from originally.... :P

I just always associate the song Nellie the elephant with Nell - and can only see Jodie Foster in the film of the same name...

I like Mirren, Fleur, Fawn, Connie, Briony, Hazel ... not commonly used, but not too off the wall either.

surfingluby · 13/09/2012 10:33

Thanks so much for all your comments, there's some beautiful names you've all suggested for us to now think about :-)

Agree with Hazel, but then it is DDs name!

I would probably shorten Ellen to Nell, I think it's lovely, as is Bay.

I also like:
Iona
Constance (Connie)
Ruth (very under used IMO)
Violet
Verity
Miriam
Margaret which I would shorten to Meg.
Jean
Jane
Lilith
Joy
Helena (could also be Nell?)
Isolde
Imelda.

toobreathless · 13/09/2012 16:05

Ps: dying to know what your other children are called!

LadyMargolotta · 13/09/2012 16:09

Yes tell us your other children's names!

Ilsa isn't particulary unusual or special.

LadyofWinterfell · 13/09/2012 16:13

DD1 is Merren, never heard of another one. There's a few Merryn's around though, someone on here has one!

i liked Coco (short for Constance) for dd but was vetoed.

surfingluby · 13/09/2012 20:18

Thanks for all your replies, I love the name Merryn but here in Cornwall there are loads :-)
I would love to tell you my dcs names but I really don't want to as I've never heard of them before and wouldn't want anyone else calling theirs the same!! Sorry :-(
Not sure if I can go with Nell as was very close to my nan so may hurt too much so I'll keep hunting but I agree with waitingpatiently......thanks
