We've got twins on the way. We've picked emilia but are struggling with the second. We love freya but have a farrah already and worry that they're too similar?please help!

Yes - too similar imvho

And I think I would go with a name that does not end with A as you have Emilia and Freya and you sort of need something a bit more solid I think.

so

Farrah, Emilia and Grace

Farrah, Emilia and Beatrice

Farrah, Emilia and Megan

Farrah, Emilia and Annabel

Farrah, Emilia and Caitlin

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 08/09/2012 21:21

I think they are to be honest. Especially in some accents.

What sorts of names do you like other than Emilia and Farrah? Perhaps if you list some you like but can't use (already used in the family, don't go with surname, whatever) people can get a better sense of your taste?

Congratulations.

Yes, too similar.

Farrah, Emilia and...

Bethan
Alexandra
Georgia

we like that it ends in a (all the girls in my family mum, sister and nieces all finish in a) this wasn't planned and we only realised it a year or so ago so i wouldn't like there to be one girl who doesn't end in an a. we already have eliana, farrah and now emilia and freya so there is also the e f pattern to consider (also an accident but again don't want to break it now)
thanks for your responses and your suggestions. but it needs to start with an f and end in an a hence why we are finding it so tough.

Bongaloo · 08/09/2012 23:10

There is no e f pattern. Just Eliana and Farrah so far.
You don't have to give the new ones slight variations of the older ones names at all.

Mindy101 · 08/09/2012 23:16

i forgot to mention that our names start with e and f so the pattern is there alright.

nailak · 08/09/2012 23:21

how about fawzia, faiza, firoza, faith, fay, fawn, felicity, fedora, fern, fiona, flavia, francis, freda,

Willowme · 08/09/2012 23:28

All too similar to me think u need to go for something like Florence and Eliza, as they sound so different to Eliana and Farrah without breaking the e f pattern,

MagdalenaAlec · 08/09/2012 23:31

Agree with the others, Farrah and Freya are too similar.

Francesca?
Flora?
Fabiola?
Fatima?
Felicia?
Fabiana?

Or keep the "f" sound but pick names beginning in "Ph": Phoebe e.g..

Narked · 08/09/2012 23:40

Eliana and Emilia? Rather similar too.

TudorJess · 08/09/2012 23:49

"it needs to start with an f and end in an a"

Wish you'd said that before :)

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 09/09/2012 22:21

Hang on, you have an Emilia and an Eliana? And you want the names to start with F and end in A (but Farrah doesn't, so you've broken the pattern already Confused).

Really, worrying about name similarity is clearly not something that bothers you, so why on earth have you started a thread on that specific topic. If you like similar, themed names, just go for it. Not my taste personal, but your baby, your choice.

B1ueberry · 09/09/2012 22:28

what about Leila as you have a farrah. seem to 'go'

BoerWarKids · 09/09/2012 22:31

Leila and Farrah are lovely together, they're both Arabic names and people may make that connection?

Ruprekt · 09/09/2012 22:31

Tut! Talk about only half a story!!

Mindy101 · 09/09/2012 23:00

Don't think you've completely understood. We've have an eliana and a farrah already. We're expecting twins and have settled on emilia for one and really like freya but thought it might be too similar to farrah. The h in farrah is silent so it sounds like it finishes in a. Ideally we would like the twins names to start with in e and f and end in an a sound.
Guess thats the great thing about names they are personal!
But appreciate all your comments.

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 09/09/2012 23:05

Sorry, yes, I understood but I phrased my post slightly clumsily. When I said 'you've got', I meant you had definitely chosen to use Emilia. Farrah and Freya are very similar, but no more so than Emilia and Eliana.

Personally I wouldn't use Freya or Emilia with your existing names, I'd go for something more different (even if you want the particular letters). But as I've said, your choice.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/09/2012 23:09

I think if Farrah and Freya are too similar, then so are Eliana and Emilia. The four of them together would be confusing!

Mindy101 · 09/09/2012 23:16

Thanks everyone.now completely confused.never thought eliana and emilia were similar!guess I must be subconsciously picking similar names.Really like them all though, just have to figure out if I will after pregnancy hormones have left. Like isabella and Sophia so maybe we'll go completely off course!

When I was 14 Farah trousers were all the rage in school, I was desperate for a pair.

ja9 · 09/09/2012 23:21

yes i think so too. sorry. congrats on your twins! alicia? i think you could get away with similar endings but others will disagree...

Lannie33 · 10/09/2012 03:34

yes farrah and freya are too similar imo. If you like Freya..maybe Teiya (pronounced TAY-ah)?????

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 10/09/2012 08:37

If you ditched one of the requirements and kept the other, you would still have a family pattern, but it would be easier for the names to be different. I think that with the initial and end sounds the same, the names will almost inevitably sound very similar. You could stick with your E and F pattern, or go with A endings?

Personally I think A endings is a wee bit nicer. Otherwise it sort of sounds like you are pairing off the kids IYSWIM. Twins particularly can resent being lumped together as they get older.

I think Isabella and Sophia are lovely, if you do go that route. There are loads of A names to choose from too:

Francesca
Clara
Sara
Adela
Natalia
Julia
Magdalena

Just to pick a few of different styles that spring to mind.

But like I said, if you don't mind the names being similar, just go for Emilia and Freya. You like them, and that's what counts. Think about shortenings too though. If you ever call Eliana Ellie, then an Emmy too would be really confusing!

TudorJess · 10/09/2012 09:16

Yes go for Isabella and Sophia!

smogwod · 10/09/2012 09:34

Yes sorry I agree, both Farrah and Freya and Eliana and Emilia are too similar.
