We have narrowed it down to:

William
Finley
Rafael
Cassius

We think we're going to go with Finley, to be known mostly as Finn. Cos we think it's cute for a little boy, and also a cool name for a teenager.

Anyone got a strong preference for another name on our list??

All absolutely flipping gorgeous

Bill
Finn
Raffy
Cass

Well done!

CaptainHetty · 07/09/2012 16:29

Love them all - especially William, but I'm biased :o

CheerfulYank · 07/09/2012 16:31

I like William and Finley best but they're all nice. :)

minipie · 07/09/2012 16:32

I like William, Finley (though I think I'd spell it Finlay, no real reason though), and Rafael. Not so keen on Cassius, again no real reason!

Rafael is probably my favourite.

HoratiaWinwood · 07/09/2012 16:34

I am surprised by this list as I find all the names very different styles - like having Caitlin, Trixibelle and Ruth all on the same list.

With that in mind, I am declaring myself for William, which I like lots and only can't use for "ex associations" reasons.

TudorJess · 07/09/2012 16:43

William by a long way.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/09/2012 16:47

William

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2012 17:50

I like William best. Finlay doesn't do much for me; dislike Cassius and Rafael is a bit poncey imho.

Rutherford · 07/09/2012 17:53

Not keen on Cassius, especially not after it was used by a certain thugballer footballer.
Finley, Rafael and William all gorgeous names though, in that order of preference! I like the shortened versions of them all too. Grin

numbertaker · 07/09/2012 17:54

way to many williams, one of mine has it as a middle name. I know at least 6 williams. cassius just makes me think of muhammed ali, his name was cassius clay, and the short version sounds girlie.

I think finley is the best.

hiyalove · 07/09/2012 17:56

I like finley and cassius!

WhereMyMilk · 07/09/2012 17:57

Finlay becoming v popular-I know 6!

William always a sound choice.

Cassius-yuk

Rafael-lovely, and love Raffy for nn :)

noddyholder · 07/09/2012 17:59

I love cassius/cass was on my list for ds (he's 18 now)

Bellyjaby · 07/09/2012 18:09

We wanted Rafael, loved the idea of Rafa or Raffy for short, but it just didn't work with the surname.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/09/2012 18:14

William and Rafael are lovely. Cass is good but Cassius makes me think boxer's stage name or Roman and seems quite a statement. Finlay nice but quite popular.

storytopper · 07/09/2012 18:20

William is always a good choice - so many options for shortening- Bill, Billy, Will, Wills, etc.

Raphael/Rafael lovely and not too popular yet.

Not keen on Cassius - too pretentious.

Like Finlay/Finley but I know lots. What about using the Scottish surname Findlay to make it a bit more unusual?

WithACherryOnTop · 07/09/2012 18:26

Cassius is great.
Rafael is nice.
William is lovely.
Finlay is awful. And Finn is way overused.I hate Finn.

hellokitty123 · 07/09/2012 18:28

Cassiuss/Cass sounds very 'ssy' and casser means to break in French.
Rafael is nice. I know a lovely Spanish one.
William is ok but the Willy teasing potential would put me off.
Finlay is way overused imo.

We have a Raphael! We get lots of nice comments from people saying what a lovely name it is.

DairyNips · 07/09/2012 20:54

I like William best then FinleySmile

AgathaTrunchbull · 08/09/2012 19:39

Rafael/Raphael.

Nothing wrong with William, but it is quite commonplace. Finn too. I don't see the point of Cassius - presumably you're not naming him after Mohamed Ali, Cassius the assassin or Cassius Dio the historian, so is it just the sound of the name?

AgathaTrunchbull · 08/09/2012 19:40

*Muhammad

DangerMousey · 08/09/2012 22:18

Thanks for your thoughts guys - very interesting. We are experimenting with calling the bump Rafael/Raf for a couple of days to see if it out-sticks Finn!

Incidentally, Cassius is a Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali reference! My DH is a massive boxing fan (and amateur fighter himself)....and Mohammed really wouldn't work as we're atheists!!
