Hi. Just as it says in title really. Me and DH are having trouble agreeing on girl's names and this is one of his choices which I'm coming around to but not 100% sure so needed some more opinions! My favourite name is Megan. We also had Maia, Amber and Anya on our shortlist.

We both like these boys names
Eli
Isaac
Jacob
Noah

but can't decide which so any opinions on these also gratefully received!

I'm 40 + 2 so need to make decision soon!

Thanks

really like Martha
Jacob my favourite of the others
best of luck

I know siblings called Isaac and Martha and always thought how nice they sounded together.

flopsy1974 · 04/09/2012 17:50

Love Martha. The best girls name out there as far as I'm concerned Smile. But I do have one Wink
Love Isaac from your boys list.

amck5700 · 04/09/2012 18:44

Martha is lovely. I prefer to your other options, Mairi is similar and lovely too.

I like Jacob from your boys list but like Joseph too - definitely prefer Joe to Jake if it ends up getting shortened.

sian05 · 04/09/2012 19:39

Thanks for your replies. Really good to hear Martha is liked - feel a bit more confident about it now. Smile I think Isaac is just edging ahead as boys name.

Maybe baby is waiting for us to decide before making an appearance!

I am not keen on Martha (sorry!) but I like Mabel!

JimbosJetSet · 04/09/2012 19:45

I like Martha too. Megan was initially one of our top choices for DD but we decided against it in the end because there are a million and one ways to spell it - we didn't want her having to spell out her name to everyone for the rest if her life!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 04/09/2012 19:45

Martha is lovely. Megan is awful and was very popular about ten years ago, loads of pre-teen Megan's about. It's a completely different league to Martha.

Hulababy · 04/09/2012 19:49

I really like the name Martha - lovely. I also prefer it to the other four names you suggest.

The boys name - in order of preference: Jacob (but don't like Jake), Noah, Isaac, Eli.

Yika · 04/09/2012 19:52

Martha is one of my favourite names.

thepeanutsparent · 04/09/2012 19:53

I like Martha it's a sweet name. I love Ike as a shortening of Isaac!

themonsteratemyspacebar · 04/09/2012 19:53

Hmm not too fond of Martha, kind of old fashioned for my tastes. Then again not my baby!
Love the other girls names though, very pretty.
Liking the boys names too, bar Jacob. Because of twilight theres going to be 1000's of them being born for the next few years.
Shame i actually like the name :-(

GiraffeAHolic · 04/09/2012 19:55

Love Martha and my boys name shortlist for ds was almost identical to yours and we used one of them :)

MERLYPUSS · 04/09/2012 19:55

Martha is a fantastic name - my fave neice is a martha-moo.
When I was expecting twins I had alll your names on the list but vetoed Maia (pronounced my-a) as I would've been sick of correcting people pronouncing it wrongly and the wrong spelling. In the end I had boys and DT2 is Isaac. You'll still get twits that spell it double ss or with a z!!

sian05 · 04/09/2012 19:56

I didn't think about the spelling issue with Megan but that was one of my reasons against Maia as it can be spelt and pronounced so many ways.

DH very pleased his choice has been endorsed!

One of my nieces is Martha Carys, which I think is gorgeous. It's got the advantage of being a great name for a child and for a grown-up. She was going to be Megan, but a neighbour took it. I agree that Megan is a bit dated possibly now (was very popular about 10 years ago) and I've gone off it since hearing that in France it's considered equivalent to Charlene or something.

I like all your boys' names. My favourite would be Jacob (could conceivably be shortened to Jack or Jago if you don't like Jake). Isaac is a lovely name, but doesn't go with certain surnames given that it sounds like "I suck" (so be careful!)

smother · 05/09/2012 10:08

I love Martha - although I think it may be a bit of a marmite name in that you either love or hate it. Some people say it is dowdy, serious and too grannyish... I totally disagree! I also know a really gorgeous little Amber. What about Anna (nn Annie)?

I like Isaac and Jacob of your boy's names. Noah is one step too biblical for me.

Good luck, let us know what you decide.

Blu · 05/09/2012 10:12

Martha is a great name - I really like it.

mrstowers · 05/09/2012 13:17

Love Martha, it's by far the best of your girl names. Really like Eli (Elijah) too.

CityDweller · 05/09/2012 14:47

Martha's on my shortlist for a girl. I think it's a lovely name. As is Isaac for a boy. Like Jacob too.

airedailleurs · 05/09/2012 14:51

really like Martha

badtasteflump · 05/09/2012 14:51

I like Martha. Makes me think of Martha and the Muffins Smile

Not to keen on Isaac, Jacob or Noah TBH - only because they're really popular at my DCs school.

BoerWarKids · 05/09/2012 14:52

Love Martha Smile Do it!

sian05 · 05/09/2012 15:24

Thanks for all the replies -I feel really excited about the name Martha now.
(although just had to Google Martha and the Muffins as never heard of them. Thought it was going to be a kids tv show!)

I bet it will be a boy now Grin

I don't like Martha, but Megan and Amber are both lovely. I like all the boys' names with Eli and Jacob the best.
