I'm not expecting another baby (we have 2 DDs) but should we be fortunate to conceive again and it's a boy, I love, love, LOVE the name Gabriel.

My concern about it is NNs he'd get; mostly from the 'gay' sound at the beginning of Gabriel.

Would I be inflicting a lifetime of irritation and ridicule upon my potential boy?

I'd appreciate any feedback! TIA

I have a Gabriel. Obviously I think it is a wonderful name, and the reason I am currently trawling the baby name board is because I am struggling to find a name as wonderful as it for DC2!

Generally he goes by Gabe at pre-school and is Gabie at home. I have only ever seen the worry about 'gay' being used to tease on mumsnet, I think AlexanderS sums up my feelings on that very eloquently.

Hello truth I see your 'nexus' and raise you a 'goblets' Grin

I have a Gabriel and to be honest the problems are not with people calling him Gay (he's very big for his age and built like the proverbial BSH so it's rather a case of 'come on punk, make my day') but with idiots who insist on a cod foreign pronunciation and keep calling him Gabrielle. He did find it tricky in Key Stage 1 at school whenever they were doing the Christmas story but since he hit KS2 and they stopped doing a blinking nativity play every year it's been fine - apart from the Gabrielle mallarky.

I do wonder often why people insist on pronouncing Gabriel, Gabrielle when I haven't ever heard anyone called Daniel being mispronounced to Danielle. But there you go.
