So, the CS is booked for 7/9/12 and we only have a longlist. Neither of us 'love' any of the names but even though I have pored over websites/books I can't find anything better. Surname is long and double-barrelled, sibs are Alec and Hugh.

Magnus 589
Angus 311
Gregor 1801
Miles 191
Hector 386
Fraser
Felix
Felix
Hamish
Rory/Ruari
Jasper

What do you think of this lot?
Rufus

Sorry, c&p went a bit wrong! Disregard extra Felix and Rufus. Also the numbers on the first few are their 2010 ranking according to Darkgreener.

Love Miles and Felix, quite like Rory and Hector.

amck5700 · 30/08/2012 17:30

Gregor is my favourite, but I also like Fraser and Magnus, not keen on Jasper, Felix, Hector and Rory/Ruaraidh/Ruari - Miles, Angus and Hamish are okay but Angus and Hamish don't sound as good with your other boys names.

Couple of suggestions along the same theme - Moray/Murray, Ross, Nairn, Craig, Keir/Ciar.

Puffykins · 30/08/2012 17:35

Magnus. Love Magnus.

Ham69 · 30/08/2012 17:35

I really like Magnus, Felix and Miles and think they sound great with your other DS names.
Good luck with CS.

AhsokaTano · 30/08/2012 17:39

Linus? A bit too Peanuts maybe...

DessieLou · 30/08/2012 17:40

Fraser
Gregor
Jasper
All lovely!Good luck!

MagdalenaAlec · 31/08/2012 10:15

I love Gregor and Jasper from your list. Hector and Felix too but they are a bit similar to Hugh and Alec.

I also have an Alec :) and we considered Glenn, Piers, Hadrian for DC2 (as well as many others but they are not along the same lines as your list).

Littlecherublegs · 31/08/2012 11:12

Aw, I love Linus!! Smile

And Amos, Silas and Cornelius.

From your list I like Gregor best.

Or how about Spencer, Fletcher, Gabriel, Flynn, Blake, Caleb?

squoosh · 31/08/2012 11:13

Rex?

AhsokaTano · 31/08/2012 22:42

I like Rex but DH is just making silly dog comments about it.

He now fancies Alasdair as the No1 choice.

I like Gregor & Rory best from your list.

Felix reminds me of the cat food, and I don't like Hector as a name because of it's meaning as a word.

Ham69 · 31/08/2012 22:52

I LOVE Alistair . Was a nanny for an Alistair a couple of decades ago and always thought I'd call a future DS that name. In a way, I wish I'd had.

mummabug · 31/08/2012 22:59

Love Rory and Felix

schroedingersdodo · 31/08/2012 23:16

Ahsoka, funny that I like Felix, Hector and Gregor, and I'm seriously thinking of Linus for DS2.

From your list I think Magnus is a bit "too much", and Miles and Angus are quite nice. I don't like Jasper, Rory, Hamish, Fraser.

Since you've waited so long, why don't you just wait to see the baby and then see what he looks like?

HoopDePoop · 31/08/2012 23:17

Yyy to Alasdair, lovely!

amck5700 · 31/08/2012 23:50

Not Alasdair with a D - that always seems a bit wet :) - has to be a "t" Alastair or Alister. You do realise though that Alastair is the Gaelic form or Alexander? So you would have 2 children with essentially the same name?

amck5700 · 31/08/2012 23:50

of not or!

mathanxiety · 02/09/2012 06:12

Magnus 589
Angus 311
Gregor 1801
Miles 191
Hector 386
Fraser
Felix
Hamish
Rory/Ruari
Jasper

Alec, Hugh and Gregor leaps right off the page.
Alec, Hugh and Rory is nice too.
Alec, Hugh and Conrad might be nice?
Or Alec, Hugh and Fergus?

All nice names though. But you can't have Alastair and Alec as explained above.

Good luck with the CS.

FellatioNelson · 02/09/2012 06:23

I love them all with the possible exception of Hector. One of my DS's is in there, and many of those appeared on my lists as well!

I would probably avoid Angus and Alec together and likewise Hugh/Hamish/Hector. My DH, one of my sons and one of my nephews all have similar sounding names beginning with the same letter and it can get a bit confusing. [confusing]

I would plump for Magnus or Gregor.

FellatioNelson · 02/09/2012 06:24

What about Fergus?

FellatioNelson · 02/09/2012 06:25

I don't think Alec and Alistair work together at all.

FellatioNelson · 02/09/2012 06:25

Also if surname is long and double barrelled, best to keep first name short and punchy, two syllables max.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 02/09/2012 06:41

Miles, Fraser and Jasper i love.

I'm not fussed on the others and don't like Magnus or Angus, although i know a lovely Angus, still don't like it though.

saffronwblue · 02/09/2012 07:01

I think Magnus 589 sounds cool!
