salomeh, and jasper. muslim baby names?

hello! i am a white american married to a british muslim, and pregnant with our first child. we would like a muslim name for our child, but i would like to find one that sounds more western to my ears. one name that i am loving now is Salomeh, which i understand to be persian. my question is -- does anyone know if this is a muslim name??? it means peace.

or the name jasper. it means "keeper of treasure." i believe this IS muslim. is anyone familiar with it being used for muslim children?

I thought that meaning was for Caspar? Although, I believe the two names have a common root. I have no idea if it's Muslim - sorry. FWIW, I prefer Caspar.

Salomeh is a derivation of Salome, the biblical King Herod's daughter who ordered John the Baptist's head on a platter. Not a nice name sake.

Shiloh is a nice similar Aramaic name, Hebrew connections though. Sabah is a nice Arabic name meaning 'morning'. Safiyyah is one to consider too as Fifi would be a cute nickname. I also like Iman.

For boys I love Suleiman, Kemar, Namir and Zain.

How about Ayden/Aydan for a boy?

Have you googled Muslim baby names - there are loads of sites out there that could clear it up for you. Depending on your husband's background/beliefs, the definition of "Muslim" name can be stretched quite far to any bit of Arabic, in my experience.

There have been a number of threads about this before.
Try something like Har(r)is, Far(r)is or Kamran for a boy (Kamran is originally Persian, but pretty common in Asian Muslim countries). Or something like Adam?

For girls, there are so many names which sound 'western' - Zahra or Sara, Nadia, Hana, Maryam, Laila, Kamila...

Hmm. those are not really the fusion names I would have in mind...

Salomeh sounds very Muslim to me.
Jasper sounds very Western to me. (I like it though)

What about Zain, Zara...

Hiya, I love the names you've chosen (Im western) I also like most of the names Lionstigers chose too. Other than that, I don't like the others. Particularly like Sabah, Jasper, Salomeh I really like and would consider your children to be of muslim origin (apart from Jasper) when hearing them for the first time. I'd love to name our baby Amira, if I weren't western!

How about Salma for a girl? Salome or jasper don't sound like Muslim names to me (I'm Muslim), but u can have any name for your child as long as it has a good meaning.

I know an english/arab boy called jasper Amir, ie one english one muslim name, so I'm assuming that Jasper isn't in fact a muslim name!

What lovely names! Still love Salomeh Safiya. Of the boys names I like Omar and Basim. Most of your names are just lovely. The only thing is try to go for a name you like the sound of, people don't generally go round explaining their name's meaning when telling others their name.

My son is in the same situation (but reverse) as the OP. He is white, British, athiest, will be marrying his girlfriend who is a Malay muslim Bruneian, and they both want 'English sounding' Muslim names for their future children.

They like Adam for a boy and Sara for a girl, but Nadia is lovely too.

I have never heard of a muslim called jasper? so think that ones comes across more western personally. Haven't heard salomeh either but you can kind of tell the meaning from the sound of it and sounds more muslim cos of that. im not sure how to prnounce it though?? salma is easier

most of the names on your list are nice, i love the boys name basim i was thinking of that for my ds3 (hes ended up called rafiq) i might have it if i have a ds4 in future
