Rhizome or Lima?

That's what my 4yo DS thinks we should call a hypothetical 4th dc. Hmm

Have your dc had any input when naming a baby?
What would their choices be?

I once read about a couple who let their 3yo DD name their newest addition. She chose LaLa. Hmm

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

rhizome sounds like a medication

LineRunner · 21/08/2012 00:51

Minky.

My DD on DS.

She also favoured Egwa.

javotte · 21/08/2012 08:26

I seem to have reasonable children! DS (5 1/2) wants to call his little sister Alana. DD (nearly 3) wants to call her Rose.

mrstowers · 21/08/2012 09:14

Have just spat my cornflakes out at Cunty Grin

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 21/08/2012 09:18

Alana is nice. Unless your DS is called Alan...? Grin

Rhizome is the term for a thickened root from which a new plant grows. It's like calling a DC Bulb, Taproot, Anther, Stamen, Stigma, Pistil, Style, Stem or Petal.

The Sex Pistols were reputed to have chosen their name as a variant of the plant part/function 'sex pistil'

thereistheball · 22/08/2012 08:21

DD (4) wanted to call our boy twins Horace and Jasper. When we didn't agree quickly enough she changed her mind to Zeppo and Hogarth.

OhGood · 22/08/2012 10:40

Magdalena Cheung and Tofu Grin love it

javotte · 22/08/2012 15:43

Ennis no he isn't. I think Alana is a little girl that DS has a crush on at his judo lessons Smile

littlemissstan · 22/08/2012 15:48

I did name my little brother, though clearly I had little imagination at the age of three as I chose Tom after my best friend at nursery...

UterusUterusGhali · 22/08/2012 16:32

Edith, I think DS must have overheard me talking about them in the garden. Or I was muttering at him about the weeds.

Thereis, they are all fine names!

DSS thinks his little sister should be called Fidget. I have to say, I'm not entirely convinced - but I refer to her as Wriggler so I can't say too much!

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 22/08/2012 19:44

I know a family where the DD1 chose the DD2's full name. DD1 was 3. DD2 is called Maisie Dora, after DD1 favorite characters. Hmm.

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 22/08/2012 19:46

DS, 3, wanted to call DD after his bear friend (also a girl). If we had another baby now it'd probably be Digger Triceratops.

BikeRunSki · 23/08/2012 08:10

Best friend, not bear friend!

MagdalenaAlec · 23/08/2012 09:33

Ohgod :o
DS is already a bit of the Casanova-type and is totally head over heels with the takeout lady. Did not occur to him that a tall blonde/blue eyed girl called Cheung would be a tad weird!

goulou · 23/08/2012 13:55

My 4 year old wanted to call his brother Jesus!

UterusUterusGhali · 24/08/2012 21:56

Goulou, my DD did call her pet rabbit Jesus!

We pronounce it the Spanish way so as not to offend the catholics next door.Smile

If I asked my DS he'd probably want to call his next sibling Bernard (all of his toys are Bernard apparently)

My cousin and I were asked to name one of his younger siblings so we named him after the singer if a band we liked (we were in our teens at that point though) Same auntie asked her 7th, 8th and 9th children to name baby number 10 (yes, I know! No,they're not on benefits...) so he's called Ben!!

stoatie · 26/08/2012 14:53

DS (now a strapping 16 year old) was insistent that DD2 was to be called Peach. It was her nickname for quite a while, but when she was three months old we were at school Christmas Concert when the headteacher was cooing over her and then asked me Stoatie - is she really called Peach?
I spluttered - No - her name is

Headteacher smirked and remarked she had been surprised at Peach (this was before Gwyneth Paltrow had Apple - but after Peaches Geldorf).

DD has totally different nickname now - which again was started by DS Blush

peanutMD · 26/08/2012 15:14

DS aged 6 is adamant that DC2 should be called Taylor either way!

It's a very popular name on or area and I'm not keen anyway so that won't be happening.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 26/08/2012 15:25

DS wants to call the one I'm currently brewing Robbie Rabbit if it's a boy and Richard Rabbit if it's a girl. Damn you Peppa Pig.
