Makes me think of the author of the Stepford Wives, Ira Levin. Thats the only Ira I've ever heard of. Agree the IRA connection could be tricky though.

I think it is a lovely name, i did not make the connection with the IRA whatsoever & i am british, if you are worried this could be a common issue maybe you could spell it with a h on the end, Good luck picking a name :)

I love it, think Gershwin, don't think it's feminine at all. But, but...the IRA thing is clearly problematic, which is such a shame. How about Asa?

Baby is due Dec 20th. We already have Samuel, Joshua, and James in our family. The difficulty we have is that we have 12 nephews and 5 brothers between us, and we're not keen to repeat any of the nephew names! even though they are some of my favourites.

The only person I have ever met called Ira was a Russian woman - it was short for Irina and pronounced 'Eera'.

I'm from NI - Ira is the Irish Republican Army with capitalisation issues.

CanoeSlalom · 17/08/2012 14:02

I like it. I think of Ira Gershwin.

I'd only think I.R.A. if it was in capitals.

DawnOfTheDee · 17/08/2012 14:06
