Oonagh or Cleo?

My other half and I cannot agree on a name for a girl. I like Oonagh (or Una but i prefer the Oonagh spelling) and he likes Cleo. The surname is very common and rather boring so I want something different for the first name. I am half Irish half Egyptian, so both names reflect this. I think Cleo sounds like a car. He thinks Oonagh is just a horrible name. There are no other names we like.

Any opinions? What would you prefer? Is there potential for bullying with either name? Nicknames? Be honest I can take it!

(We do not know the sex and we are both agreed on a boys name - would be so much easier if its a boy!!)

Doesn't matter if it rhymes unless you have twins :)

Theo seems a bit more traditional than your suggested girls names which is probably why you are having difficulties getting the OH to agree on your choices for a girl. I take it he has no suggestions? You may have better luck trying something a wee bit less controversial. Layla maybe or what about Thea?

Layla is very close to my own name so that's a no go. Also thea I do like but I'd be afraid my Irish relatives would mispronounce it and call her Tia.

I am now thinking...Violet...what you think??

Clio is definately my favourite! If you want different spelling you could always try Cleogh :) A bit more complicated than necessary but why not!

My name's Oonagh. I have a love/hate relationship with it - one thing, it's always a talking point and people always remember me after being introduced.

I also get Donagh on official documents, grant cheques from Uni, driving licence etc because offices types obviously cannot accept that's really two Os there and decree one of them must be a D. AngryHmm what a faff having to get stuff corrected all the time...

Apart from that though... It's ok!

The Una spelling is easier to live with.

Thank you to everyone for responding. I'm afraid it was all in vain though! We went for a 36wk growth scan yesterday and although we asked the sonographer not to tell us the gender, we both defo saw a little willy on the screen!! So, Theo it is then! A bit gutted to have found out at this late stage, and we aren't telling anyone, but we're over the moon at the same time. It's saved us a lot of agonising over girls names anyway!! :)
