Would be sister to Josephine (nn Josie).

And is it also too twee / little pretty girly?

There are loads on Emily's where I am and I think its a bit meh...Josie is a fab name and I'd go with Betty or Bea.

Emily is just so ...dull (sorry)

Emily is a lovely name, classic and a name that works as well for a baby, little girl or a professional.

How about Emilia / Amelia, both also really lovely? Or Emma? Also classic names and very pretty.

I think emily is a lovely name. I like simple classic names, others like names that are more unusual.

Horses for courses.

Emily is beautiful. I would use it myself if every other girl where i live wasn't named Emily. I wouldn't say it's boring, just overly popular.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 19/08/2012 20:50

I wouldn't let that put me off. Someone put some stats on here once that where really interesting about even using the most popular name meaning there wasn't a huuuuge chance there would be a load in the school class as you might think.

Emily is a gorgeous name :)

Runningblue · 19/08/2012 20:53

I think it's a pretty little name. But one thought emilia?

Londonista1975 · 19/08/2012 20:57

Yes it's boring and also very popular - do you really want your daughter growing up at primary AND secondary schools with a dozen or so other Emily's in her year?

HiHowAreYou · 19/08/2012 23:10

I know three Emilias and no Emilys.

DessieLou · 20/08/2012 14:16

We're considering Emily, too. I think it's pretty and classical but was really suprised to see it's now in the top 10 (how annoying!). I don't actually know of any Emily's apart from one of about 30 years old. Girls names are really hard aren't they?!

MrsJohnDeere · 20/08/2012 14:31

Lovely, classic name.

Emilia def. more common than Emily amongst new babies here.

Bongaloo · 20/08/2012 14:34

I love the name Emily - a bit dark and gothic.

Nancy66 · 20/08/2012 18:28

I think it's boring - the Susan of its day.

What about Elspeth?

Emily is a beautiful name IMO. Understated and classic. But wouldn't put it with Josephine.
Somethinglike Amelia, Hannah?

twonker · 21/08/2012 00:14

Emma
