Been watching 'Game of Thrones' and thought these were really pretty names.

What do you all think?

WesH hehe!!

Why don't you throw in a unique spelling of each for good measure

It's akin to be called jaja (binks)

reuset · 18/02/2015 12:22

I don't like either.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 18/02/2015 15:21

Sansa, mainly because I prefer her character in ASOIAF/GoT.

I know a baby Arya. I said it Ar-Ya, and got it wrong.

merrymouse · 18/02/2015 15:26

Arya - I think she is less likely to come to a bad end. TBH I would still wait till the series has finished just to be sure.

Stokes · 18/02/2015 18:06

I wouldn't want to risk either before the books are finished. Not sure I'd want to name my daughter after either character at the moment! Maybe Sansa at a push.

GerundTheBehemoth · 18/02/2015 18:14

As a non-watcher of Game of Thrones... Sansa makes me think of the Sansa Clip+ MP3 player (I have one, it's great) and Arya makes me think of Aryan.

expatinscotland · 18/02/2015 18:18

Just no.

Purplefrogeatsalily · 18/02/2015 18:19

Arya is lovely.

Sansa could be misconstrued as Santa, badly pronounced if I'm honest.

Go with Arya :)

EduCated · 18/02/2015 18:21

The books aren't finished, you have no idea what the characters might become or do. It might turn out to be the equivalent of calling your child Voldemort.

Hakluyt · 18/02/2015 18:22

Not you that has to be brave, OP- it's the child who has to go through life called after a character in a popular TV show.........

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 18/02/2015 22:11

Plus you already have one child called chunky

sashh · 19/02/2015 06:59

I know a Jenna named after the character in Blake's 7, she has no problem with a name, I also know a James who will have a hissy fit if anyone mentions James the Cat.

As for Arya and Sansa, they are no longer unusual names try them in names.darkgreener.com/

Hakluyt · 19/02/2015 07:13

All that site shows is that nobody used those names before GofT! I don't think James the Cat was the first use of the name....

reuset · 19/02/2015 12:10

Grin at James the Cat!

reuset · 19/02/2015 12:14

Only 5 babies registered as Sansa in 2013 makes it unusual

Greymalkin · 19/02/2015 12:21

I agree with the previous poster who said use caution until you know how the characters turn out. GRRM is know for being ruthless with his characters!

And from a GoT / SOIAF point of view, Arya is pronounced Are-yah

Murphy29 · 19/02/2015 12:26

Arya.

Really don't get the Aryan connection as pronounced quite differently

AwfulBeryl · 19/02/2015 12:39

I third the suggestion to wait for GRRM to finish the book. Unless you don't mind if either characters turn out to be the bad guy.

There are some safe names like Leanna or Asha that are featured in the book but are a bit more mainstream.

reuset · 19/02/2015 12:44

Whether character turns out to be a baddy or a goody, or meets some gruesome end (latter most likely) I couldn't care less about. However, Incredibly naff name, dates me back to specific time period and tells people my parents' trashy taste in TV and books. This would bother me far more!

FlabbyMummy · 19/02/2015 12:48

Is Arya pronounced "are ya"? If so the kids in school will play on this.

Trinpy · 19/02/2015 13:07

Grin at being Arya and Chunky's mum. Imagine calling them in for tea! It would sound like you were asking a (very insulting) question.

Sansa is ok.

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 19/02/2015 16:32

Ha at James the cat, seriously, James is hardly unusual, if you name a child after a v unusual fantasy figure pick something good like the hulk or how about the next new phenomena, big hero, unfortunate if said child is slightly larger

I expect there may be a set of twins somewhere named Christian and Anastasia - boak!!

This is almost as bad a crap new spellings of traditional names, sat Georgia aka Jorja or Amy aka Aamee

People think about your children for gods sake not your most recent taste in chick lit or scifi

MaudeLebowski · 19/02/2015 16:42

Use Direwolf instead.

You will date your child horribly if you use a GOT name. And they both so obviously are.

Its not like using Harry, Ron or Hermione.

MaudeLebowski · 19/02/2015 16:44

sash Jenna and James are neutral names though - yes there are characters with the same name, but they are common names in their own right.

Sansa particularly is a bit more like calling your kid Chewbacca than it is James the Cat.

Teladi · 19/02/2015 16:45

This is a zombie thread I think!
