A collegue asked me if I had decided on a boys name yet I said not officially but it's looking likely he will be Jacob . Another collegue (who is rather annoying and I don't like much) laughed in my face and said "hahaha that's my cats name !!"

Would it put you off?

Jacob is in the top 10 for 2011, and I think it's also 2010. It's hardly a dog only name, is it?

My dog has a very popular girl's name. I never thought I would actually have a child so I used my favourite name. Six years later I had DD and had terrible trouble naming her.
Anyway I never mention that it is my dog's name when people say their child has that name. It just seems rude and your colleague sounds like an arse.

Really wouldn't put me off.

One of my DSs has the same name as one of my friend's horses - William. She named the horse after I named the child so it has never been an issue.
