As the nickname for Penelope? Just wondering in an idle way which spelling works better.

Penny. Pennie is Penny spelt wrong.

thixotropic · 07/08/2012 18:59

Call her pennie and some wag at school will always add an 's'

Then kids will laugh and call her penis

(had a similarly amendable name and kids can be horrible)

mirry2 · 07/08/2012 19:02

Pennie is so contrived. Call her Penny. It will probably be shortened to Pen.

CecilyP · 07/08/2012 19:15

Penny.

VolAuVent · 07/08/2012 19:36

If you use Pennie you'll be forever correcting people.

What everyone else saidGrin

TidyDancer · 07/08/2012 20:28

Haha. It's unanimous then! Penny is correct. Pennie looks like you can't spell.

PurplePidjin · 07/08/2012 20:42

With a y (from experience)

Some wag will always add the s, but at least when ignorant fuckers people can't spell it, you can just say "You know, like money" and make them look stupid er :o

Psammead · 07/08/2012 21:18

Ok :)

I always thought it was Penny, but had a last minute 4am crisis of confidence and wondered if I was being stupid and it was obviously Pennie Grin

My aunt shortens it as Peni.

It never occurred to me until I was in my 30s that it was easily turned into penis - I was just so used to thinking of it as peni in relation to her. And my nickname at more than one school as bestowed by others was the walking dictionary so not usually bad at spotting things like that!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 07/08/2012 23:50

Penny.
