DD is Sophia

DC2 due in December. Had the big scan yesterday and all is well but didn't find out the sex. Now we are starting to think of names.

I still love the name Sophia but would like maybe a 1 or 2-syllable name this time, as we often tend to shorten Sophia to Phia. However, I would just love your suggestions at this point.

Popularity doesn't bother me too much but would prefer outside the top 20. (We didn't check any popularity lists the first time round and I had never known anyone in RL called Sophia. Oops.)

My current favourite is Kate for a girl. For a boy, I have nothing. Nothing.

Ok, inspire me...if you fancy, of course.

Oh, we had considered Elizabeth (after my DGM), nn Beth (which I love!) but a friend recently beat us to it! Elizabeth will probably be middle name if it is a girl.

Middle name for boy probably James.

Sophia is lovely and is on our shortlist for DD#1 - due in September. We also have Lucy, Alice and Grace on our list. I know they're all quite popular but think they are feminine and classic, without being wishy washy. Middle name (unless we go with Grace) will be Gabrielle after my 92-y-o GM!

We found out it was a girl at 20w scan. Before that we were set on Arthur John for a boy. Noah, Ted, Gray and Cass were also on our shortlist.

Thanks for the replies. Thinking of names is such fun, but somehow when it comes to a decision being made for an actual real live baby, the pressure makes it much harder!

Of your suggestions I like Phoebe (not sure about the 2 'ph' sounds, though) and Isabelle (not Belle).

I also like Reuben, Alexander and Ruby but can't use due to them being friends' children's names and Ruby is DD's middle name.

Anyone else? :)

Willow? I love the sound and nature connotations. Hello, this is Sophia's sister Willow. I think they go nicely. :)

MoonHare · 07/08/2012 18:42

How about;

Imogen, Meredith (hmm too many syllables perhaps), Zoe, Rachel, Iris, Evelyn, Harriet, Emily (v popular though).

Gregory, Max, Toby, Jasper, Henry.

breadandhoney · 07/08/2012 20:22

Not sure about Willow. One to think about.

Moonhare - some lovely suggestions. I like Iris. Rachel is beautiful and underused, I think.

The boys' names still aren't grabbing me, though.

I have a question. Has anyone noticed an increase in the popularity of the name Kate since the royal wedding? Perhaps it's still too early to tell.

boy names- Otto, Conrad, Silas, Owen, Rowan, Bennedict, walter, Edgar...cant think of any more but would recommend going on national statistics website, lots of fun! ok re-reading them they are a bit pretentious maybe, but at least there wouldnt be ten of them in his class! cant think of any girls names and there are already such lovely suggestions-happy choosing and all the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

SweetieDoesIt · 08/08/2012 21:00

Love Sophia, Grace & Alice. What about Elise, Eloise or Maisie for girls.

For a boy how about Luke/Lucas both of which go well with Sophia. Or Heath, Ethan or Logan for a little less traditional. Depends what fits well with your surname.

I don't think there are many baby Kates out there yet. But Kate/Catherine etc have always been popular names.

breadandhoney · 09/08/2012 15:01

I went through a phase of liking owen and rowan but we now have a rowan in the family and in going off Owen a bit.

I like Luke but its not great in our accent unfortunately.

Ethan is nice. We know a little Ethan but he is a friend-of-a-froend's son. It is hard to know where the line is when it comes to name stealing/copying!

If we did go with Kate, I'm not sure if we would bother putting Catherine on birth certificate as it wouldn't ever be used and I don't like the thought of our child having to correct every new teacher they get!

amck5700 · 09/08/2012 15:23

Amaris for a girl maybe?

Other boys:

Edgar
Austin
Jonathan
Nathan

babyblabber · 09/08/2012 18:44

We have a Noah and a Sophia and other names we liked are Lola and Chloe for a girl and Luca, Leo or Ben for a boy.
