Hi everyone.
Had gorgeous boy on Thursday. Have decided to call him George Thomas Walker. Was so pleased with this until MIL has made horrible remarks such as George at Asda! Georgie Porgie and George Bush. I do not need to hear these comments when I'm so tired and emotional anyway and wanted your thoughts on name George? Do you like it? His big sisters name is Poppy.
Thanks so much x

I love the name George. My grandfather was called George and he was brave, kind and gracious. It is a name that only brings good feelings to me.

2gorgeousboys · 05/08/2012 21:16

I have a George (DS2). I call him Georgie, to everyone else he's George or according to his teacher last year "Gorgeous Georgous".

He was most impressed when we were at Asda and he found his name on clothes!

Doilooklikeagoldmedallist · 05/08/2012 21:19

I have a George .
I called him Porgie when he was a baby not a chubby baby Oh No
His older nephews called him Bush baby or Dubbya ( George Dubbya< W> Bush )
Whatever name you choose , someone will find something helpful to say ?
George is a lovely name .

My 21 month old is called George Alexander. He gets called George or Georgie. He calls himself Georgie as well. It's a fabulous name. Solid, traditional and you never have to spell it for people. Your MIL is an idiot and is best ignored. How rude of her anyway! Actually my SIL when my DH told her our 30 minute old baby was called George said "as in George from Seinfeld?". Hmm We said "No. He is George as in his great grandfather" (what a numpty!).

Stick with it. It's a great name!

Ham69 · 06/08/2012 09:37

Don't you just love MILs! I think both of your children's names are fab. They sound great together. Hopefully you'll be able to laugh about your MIL's ignorance one day. Enjoy your new baby and don't give MIL's comments a second thought. Congratulations.

jaffacakehips · 06/08/2012 09:48

Congratulations!

Lovely lovely name. Poppy and George...delightful Smile

You MIL needs to get a grip, if she gobs off again. I'll come round and lamp her for you Grin

Chunkychicken · 06/08/2012 10:51

My DD has named my bump 'George' after George Pig from Peppa Pig. I like it.:)

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 06/08/2012 10:54

How rude of your mil!

George is perfectly cute and acceptable. I have an Alfie and a jack and not everyone likes the names as they are so popular.

As.if.i.care

My boys, our name choices and they suit their names perfectly.

CongratulationsGrin

purpleloosestrife · 06/08/2012 12:41

your MIL is so rude!! George is a fab name - as is Thomas btw.

My MIL didn't/doesn't like my DD's name. She has never said so, though. She just sits there in stoney silence with a cat's bum face every time anyone else mentions how beautiful DD's name is.

MrsHelsBels74 · 06/08/2012 12:43

Ignore, George is a great name. We considered it for number 2 but I didn't want a Fred & George (Harry Potter connections). I think most names have some negative connotations but most people are tactful enough not to mention them!

eatyourveg · 06/08/2012 12:48

I have a George Thomas not once has he been called Georgie Porgie. Go for it!

WanderingOkapi · 06/08/2012 16:56

Really Lovely name. Never met a George I didn't like. Ignore mil

drtachyon · 06/08/2012 17:03

George is a lovely classic boys name. Ignore your MIL. She's being silly.

mummanj · 06/08/2012 17:15

Expecting first child in 2 weeks. Have already decided we will call him George if it's a boy. Absolutely love the name!!!

natsmum100 · 06/08/2012 18:30

Definitely an occasion for the mn favourite - did you mean that to sound so rude.

George is a great name.

HappyCamel · 06/08/2012 18:37

It's a good historic name and quite common at the moment so he's not likely to be picked on for it.

womma · 07/08/2012 22:17

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE GEORGE!! Ignore that rotten mother-in-law, and congratulations on your lovely baby boy!

GO GEORGE! xxx

exoticfruits · 07/08/2012 22:18

Lovely name-just ignore her.

CinnamonPreztel · 07/08/2012 23:32

I have a George- He likes to be called "Georgy", but I also call him "Pud" or "pudding" lol from the nursery rhyme but a cuter association. A few children at nursery call him Georgy Porgy but it doesn't bother him and they'll grow out of it.... Funny one of the mums asked her daughter for George's surname so she could find me on Facebook and her daughter say "Porgy" lol. I love love love the name, I haven't got bored of it in 4 years I love it more and more every day. I always think if I have another boy I cannot think of any name that I like anywhere near as much as "George".

CinnamonPreztel · 07/08/2012 23:34

2gorgeousboys haha I also have called my George "gorgeous georgous" haha. Also "Giant George" because my ds is soooo tall!

FreelanceMama · 07/08/2012 23:44

what an ignorant woman! George is a lovely lovely name. I think it means Farmer? We told the grannies-to-be that we were calling our baby Pythagorus if a boy so any name we did choose would be a relief in comparison.

tigerdriverII · 07/08/2012 23:45

My George (10) is known as Jaw, G or GG. He loves his name and so do we

theroseofwait · 08/08/2012 09:04

My George is also known as GG, which sounds especially cute coming from his 2 year old brother!!

It's a lovely name and ignore anyone who tries to convince you otherwise. Just look at this thread, we all can't be wrong!

Natnat29 · 08/08/2012 09:08

Love the name classic and strong :)
