Middle name for Persephone...?

Any ideas? Our surname is a double barrel along the lines of Watson-Ingram (but more unusual)

We were thinking of Imogen? But maybe something shorter would be better.

I love the name Persephone. It is on my list but not on my DH's. I don't think it matters if you choose a long middle name. Persephone Imogen sounds lovely.

If it makes you feel any better, my FIL can't spell, or pronounce either of my childrens names (and their not unheard of at that!!) He would like it if they had common names as it would make it easier for HIM! it doesn't bother us, we just have a giggle at his expense for being an ignorant sod!

I think there are plenty of greek names in use in this country which despite being uncommon people generally know how to spell and pronounce them - Penelope, Phoebe, Hermione, Hebe etc.

where we live there are loads of people with unusual names....

even basic names people ask - is that with an s or a z, is that with an e or without....

i think some people live in the sticks and just dont hear unusual names!

seeker no one has any idea whether their child will love the name they are given (which is why people have abbreviations and middle names that they can use). I know loads of people with 'common' names who hate it and i have been given nothing but envious compliments on my name.

I'm really not sure how one can generate such bitterness and vitriol for a name. Did a dog called Persephone bite you when you were a child? Or is it the 'poshness' that it represents for you?

Honestly, Persephone is not a name I would choose and I don't particularly like it, but if the OP and her DH do, that's the main thing.

You definitely need a short middle name, Eve or Rose or something like that. With two surnames, it would be overwhelming to have a long first and middle name.

OP, people are allowed to be vitriolic about names if they like, you are going to have to grow a thicker skin if you're posting about your choice on an internet forum I'm afraid. Names polarise people.

Of course people are allowed to be bitter and vitriolic (unfortunately there seems to be a lot of it on MN). But if i had asked if people liked Persephone then i would have expected it. But having just asked what middle names go with it, i presumed people who didn't like it would have better things to do than click and say something nasty.

If i said 'what colour is the sun?' i wouldn't expect people to click on saying 'oh you're so pretentious' or 'you posh sun lovers make me sick'. I would just expect people with no idea to ignore it and get a variety of strait forward suggestions like 'yellow/orange/red' and of course some wag to say 'black and white and read all over!' :)

This has just surprised me that's all. I suppose if it was politics or art i could understand the 'passion' but a name of a stranger, really?

Just call your DD whatever you like. I did.

Of course i will :) The name Persephone was never in question, i was just looking for a middle name. And thanks to this thread we have decided on Persephone Eve.

I quite like it but think something short and simple would best for a middle name, so I think Jane or Jean, Claire or, my favourite, Persephone Grace.

Persephone & Lysander are both beautiful & unusual choices! I agree that Persephone needs to be followed by a short or single syllable name - but perhaps not something as flat as Jane or Anne - Grace might work or Rose?

Has the OP not already decided on Persephone Eve (which is a good choice I think)? Surely no more suggestions are needed!

Thanks to everyone - even the rude ones! It has just made me even more sure i love the name.

Personally i prefer Persephone Grace or Persephone Joy. But DP doesn't like those so begrudgingly as it is half his baby or so i'm led to believe, it was a pretty wild xmas party! i will concede this time.

CecilyP Cecily is our choice if we are fortunate to have a second DD :) CeCe for nn. Not so sure if we have a second boy as we cannot agree on anything at all apart from Lysander
