Zachary or Noah?

5 weeks to go and this is our final shortlist.

DH is leaning towards Zachary yet im totally divided.

The one drawback I can see to Noah is that DD name is two syllable and ends with an 'a' sound so may be too 'rhymey'?

I prefer Zachary myself but they are both great names.

tummytickler · 04/08/2012 16:35

Definitely Zachary. I just cannot see the appeal with Noah at all, sorry.

EdithWeston · 04/08/2012 16:36

I prefer Zachary, but Noah is fine too.

Snusmumriken · 04/08/2012 16:46

Both are really lovely but I prefer Noah.

jellybeans · 04/08/2012 16:49

I like both.

sayanythingrogerjustrogerme · 04/08/2012 16:55

I prefer Noah, not that I mind Zachary, but Noah is lovely. (And this is neither here nor there if you don't speak Greek, but zachary means sugar, which is very nice but a bit too sweet for me, IYSWIM).

weaselm4 · 04/08/2012 17:03

I've got a Noah and DD's name is two syllables ending in 'a' sound.

Sometimes I hear myself shouting their names and think it sounds a wee bit daft, but oh well, I like both the names and don.t say them together toooo much

VolAuVent · 04/08/2012 17:35

Zachary is a nice bright sound.

Noah is OK but a bit moany-sounding.

Musomathsci · 04/08/2012 17:36

Noah is a good strong boy's name - I like it :)

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 04/08/2012 17:49

Thanks everyone! Seems opinion is divided almost equally here too! Why Is naming children so hard?!

They are both great names.

MoonHare · 04/08/2012 20:36

Prefer Noah. It is becoming more common but Zachary is extremely common, expecially in the shortened for of Zack, Zach, Zak etc.

Depends on how you feel about him being one of several in his class.

Rainbowsurf · 04/08/2012 21:39

I would avoid Noah as it is sooooo common. My son is called Noah and when he starts school our of his class of 15 boys and girls, 3 of the boys are called Noah!!
Bibilical names for boys are really common.

For what its worth I dont know any Zachary's (but I do know loads of Isaacs - nick name Zac, its the Bible thing again.)

Noah is lovely if you are a Christian but otherwise I would avoid it.

monicker2 · 04/08/2012 21:53

I love Noah, but to my chagrin, it has become very very popular.

My eldest is Noah and when he was born (he's 14) it was very rare. He is the only one at his school.

So if it was now, I'd avoid the name, much as I love it.

drtachyon · 04/08/2012 21:58

I like Zachary better.

And Rainbowsurf, Zachary is also a Biblical name - he was the father of John the Baptist.

Badgerina · 05/08/2012 12:49

Noah. Zachary is fine, but Zach is AWFUL.

Muffincrumpet · 05/08/2012 21:18

Zachary

FamiliesShareGerms · 05/08/2012 21:22

Only go with Zachary if you don't mind Zak (personally, I don't). Noah doesn't get shortened, but you will get given loads of ark stuff for the first year or so / christening presents etc.

I prefer Noah

emmyloo2 · 06/08/2012 08:44

Noah is way too popular. I used to love it but would avoid it now because of it's popularity.

Zachary is fine but again I feel like it's very popular..

weaselm4 · 06/08/2012 12:38

Oh yes, familiessharegerms, we were swimming in ark stuff for first couple of years of DS's life. Luckily he's always been an animals rather than cars sort of boy.

numbertaker · 06/08/2012 12:47

Noah was my first choice, hubby was NO. Ended up with a compromise. I like it. The ah sound i think represents the God part of the name in hebrew. Its a very deep name if you are that way inclined.
