Girls Name Suggestions for DD2 Please!

Gossipgirladdict · 04/08/2012 07:16

Hi,
We found out yesterday at our 20 week scan that DC2 is another girl! DD1 (5) is named after a well-known Simon and Garfunkel song, though is almost exclusively known by a NN (rhymes with Fifi). I absolutely love her name.
Current possibilities for DD2 are:

Natasha (nn Tash or Tasha). This is DH's favourite. I'm due 21st Dec and it means 'born at Christmas'. DD1 would have been this if she hadn't arrived 4 weeks early (due date was 12th Dec).

Claudia (nn Claudie). This is my current fave. I'm just not sure it's too similar to DD1's name (same first letter and ending) though the nn's are quite different.

Melissa. Not sure why but I have taken a real liking to this! Would hate it be shortened to Mel though. Would use Liss or Lissa if we shortened it.

Felicity. I really like this (nn Fliss) but our surname has the first 3 letter start as the well-known actress and it therefore sounds quite 'right' IYSWIM. I'm not sure if that makes it totally 'wrong' though!

That's about it. Middle name will be Jane after a friend of mine and an old family friend. Both their middle names. Actually, if I was brave enough I'd quite like to use Henrietta Jane, the family friend's full name, but think it might be a bit too much....

Just one more thing, we are big on nn's in our family as I'm one of six girls and my DM shortened all our names for easiness. My proper name is awful but it's hardly ever used, always been known by the nn DM gave me, which is unusual and I like!

Thanks for reading and any other suggestions appreciated.

Natasha (Tasha) would be lovely, especially with the meaning. Next-best is Melissa (Lissie)

Also like Felicity (Lissie) but dislike Fliss/Fizz/Flick.

Not keen Claudia.

CalamityJones · 04/08/2012 07:48

I think that Melissa goes well with your dd1's name. Do you like Lisa as an abbreviation? Lisa and Cece are sweet together..

CalamityJones · 04/08/2012 07:55

The name that I'd love to use is Clemency - think that works well also

TheCountessOlenska · 04/08/2012 08:23

Love all your choices and your first DD's name - you have similar taste to me! Natasha and Felicity are on my list for DD2.

I LOVE Claudia / Claudie as well!

Melissa is my least favourite on your list.

Gossipgirladdict · 04/08/2012 10:07

Thanks for your replies....

I think Melissa is now out of the running. I don't know why, but I hadn't made the 'Lisa' connection (can only blame pg brain!). Now it's been made, it's blindingly obvious. SIL is Lisa and though I like her and get on well with her I wouldn't name a child 'after' her. I'm so glad that was pointed out, thanks Calamity, I would hate to have used it and been told 'ooh, it's v similar to SIL, is it after her?' Nooooo!
I think Felicity/Fliss might be out for the same reason ( really don't like Flick/Fizz either VolAuVent).

Glad you like my names, Countess! DD1's name really is fab. Everyone loves it and no-one ever forgets it. Really really love Claudia at the moment.....

I knew I'd missed a possible name off my original list, it's Esme. Really liked it for DD1 but didn't use it. Still love it and think it goes well with Cecilia/Cece. Any thoughts?
Thanks....

I think Melissa and Felicity have too many similar sounds to Cecilia. All have Sss, E, I.

I'd cross Claudia off next because of the same start and end, as you mentioned.

(I like siblings' names to be more individually theirs. I'm probably too fussy.)

So Natasha would be my choice!

MoreLithiumPlease · 04/08/2012 10:26

Oh and Cece and Esme kind of rhyme, so that's a no from me too!

VolAuVent · 04/08/2012 11:39

Not keen on Esme TBH, so still like Natasha best of your options.

LemonLovesLilac · 04/08/2012 13:42

Felicity is the best out of your choices.....lovely name!

DumSpiroSpero · 04/08/2012 17:56

I like Natasha, but based on your DD1's name and a bit of Googling, how about:

Anji
April
Emily
Kathy
Peggy
Rose

...just to keep up the Simon & Garfunkel connection! Grin

WhiteAnkleSocks · 04/08/2012 18:01

What about Natalia? I knew one with NN Tally and I've always loved it, but It doesn't work with our surname.

Wildwaterfalls · 04/08/2012 18:25

I like Natasha best, and like the nickname Tasha too. Think it goes well with your DD1's name!

imustbepatient · 05/08/2012 12:41

Another vote for Natasha, also love the suggestion above for Natalia, which is in the running for our DD2!

manicinsomniac · 05/08/2012 17:12

I love Natasha and Felicity

Melissa is very pretty

Claudia is ok

Gossipgirladdict · 05/08/2012 17:54

Thanks again for replies.
I'm pleased Natasha is getting such positive comments. I do like Natalia and think Tally / Talia are lovely but unfortunately I have a DN Natalie, so it's a def no-no. It's the one thing that puts me off Natasha slightly but think it's different enough to be ok. I don't think my DSis would mind and DN is 21, so massive difference in age, but being so used to it, it just doesn't sound 'special' (enough).

MoreLithium - I definitely have a thing about Ss, E, and I names! I think it's no surprise that many of my names are very (too) similar!

DumSpiro - I'd love to find another 'song' name that I love, it's one of the things I like most about DD1's name. Loved singing it to her when she was a baby and she likes singing it herself now, it makes her giggle. As it does when we talk to people and they burst into the song when told her name (which happens surprisingly often!!). I've searched for song names but haven't found anything that's made me think 'ooh, yes!' I do really love Rose, but then I would, it's DD1's middle name!

The only other name I've come up with is Francesca, which DH seemed quite keen on. Lots of options for nn's I think....
Thanks again and any other suggestions gratefully accepted!

I think you have some great name choices and love your DD1's name.
Not keen on Natasha though, sorry, as I think 'Tash' is a rather unfortunate nn for an older girl/ lady!
On the song theme, how about Clementine, love that and nn 'Clemmy/ Clemmie' too. And there's always Delilah! Or Maggie (Margaret).

I also like Melissa and would never associate the name Lisa with it. I'd probably use the nn Missy with that name.

DumSpiroSpero · 05/08/2012 18:40

Don't know if this link is any help on the song names front.

My name crops up in at least 3 songs and the one thing I've always thought about my DD's name was that it was a shame there wasn't a song with it in, although it does crop up on an obscure Olly Murs track I noticed recently!

2to3 · 05/08/2012 18:41

My daughter has the same name as yours. I love Francesca and also Marianne. But we're not having anymore.

cece · 05/08/2012 18:43

Susanna from Triny and .... fame has an Esme and Cece doesn't she???

Ham69 · 05/08/2012 18:45

And Esme's also a brilliant name (not biased!) though fear it's popularity is rapidly on the rise. Sigh: Twilight has a lot to answer for

mybootsaremuddy · 05/08/2012 19:24

I love Cecilia its realy pretty. I know a 12yr old one with nn Cece she has an older sister called Josephine nn Seph and a younger called Adelaide nn Addie.

I like Melissa with Ham69s sugestion of Missy.
Also like Natasha but not keen on Tash/Tasha. I know a little 3yr old one with nn Natie which is quite sweet.

LondonNadiy · 05/08/2012 19:39

PLEASE don't call your daughter Clemmy Jane! Natasha and Francesca are lovely.

I don't think names being similar is bad if they are definitely distinct names. Esme is getting quite popular lately though.

Eliza, Elise, Samantha (Sammie), Melinda, or if you like song names, how about Delilah? A few choices of song there - probably would get the Plain White T's with today's kids rather than Tom Jones. Or Jude?

birdofthenorth · 05/08/2012 20:19

Claudia Jane nn Claudie is lush. Bit like CJ in the West Wing who was Claudia Jane.

Natasha is nice too but Claudie is my favourite. Goes well with her sister's name too.

eryan · 05/08/2012 22:14

If you are looking for something that has a song association what about Marianne? That and Cecilia are both on our shortlist.

Ham69 · 06/08/2012 02:45

What's wrong with Clemmy Jane LondonNadiy? I think it sounds lovely.
