Argh never thought I'd post on baby names thread but here I am!

Irish and living in the UK - DD is Sadhbh (pronounced Sive to rhyme with "five"). I am 32 weeks with LO2. Boys name is sorted, if it's a girl we like Maeve.

Do these names sound too alike - Sive and Maeve?

Not the way I say Maeve - how do you pronounce it?

MakeTeaNotWar · 03/08/2012 11:35

Maeve like Maeve Binchy - mave?

I'm Irish so quite used to hearing those names and if I heard of sisters named Sadbh and Maeve I wouldn't think they sound too alike! They go nicely together! I like Maeve spelt Meadbh and think it would look nicer with Sadbh though!

Thanks lemon that makes me feel better as resolve was wavering.

We were all set for Sadhbh and Meabh but a couple of friends (I shouldn't have said anything) raised eyebrows so I did wonder if they sounded very similar to English ears. Not as bad as a friend of mine who has Cara and Dara!

I think we'd use "Meabh" as spelling.

No, not too similar. If they rhymed, yes, but they don't. Quite sweet together, actually.

VolAuVent · 03/08/2012 18:33

I think they sound nice together.

strawberrypenguin · 04/08/2012 21:38

Then, no not to similar, they go well together

sarahseashell · 04/08/2012 21:40

I think they sound to similar (sorry)

pixiestix · 05/08/2012 11:35

They sound quite similar to me but then I'm not an Irish speaker so my pronounciation is undoubtedly a bit off!

Sadhbh is an absolutely gorgeous name btw Smile

Do people therefore think that, for example, save and five sound similar also? Your names sound lovely together.

pixiestix · 05/08/2012 13:14

Save and five do sound similar Mrstowers, they have a half rhyme.
