What's the english view on this name? It's a pretty name (to us) and popularish where we're from, although it'd be spelt Vira. Thought Anglicising it though to Vira. Surname '....kov'

I really like Vera. Don't associate it with any age, actually. Good, classic, feminine sounding name imo. Perhaps use Veronica on bc?

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/08/2012 23:01

Ooof, my name is in your list! I know a couple of cool twentysomething Slovak Vieras, a fortysomething Russian Vera, a very small Vesna...

My only comment would be that "J" in a name in UK is likely to be pronounced like that, not as "Y" so you might want to use a Y or I instead. (My cousin Jirina is called that here, not Yirina, as it should be pronounced.) I wanted to call DD1 Svetlana, but thought it might be shortened to Svetti (as in armpits...) Would you pronounce Slavica with the "c" as "ts" or as "k"?

Any prisoner Cell Block H fans here? whenever I see or hear this name, I always think of Vera 'Vinegar Tits' Bennett!

pixiestix · 05/08/2012 11:32

I wasn't sure at first but its growing on me fast! I can see it getting much more popular with the massive lean towards old lady names at the moment. Yes, I can tentatively say I like it! Grin

Hello Vera Grin

geddit??

Clawdy · 05/08/2012 13:10

Makes me think of Brenda Blethyn as Vera in the detective series...not a good image....

Clawdy · 05/08/2012 13:11

Not that I don't love the series and her portrayal! but not a pretty name...

bringbacksideburns · 05/08/2012 13:11

Don't like it.

If you like old names how about Dora or Edie?

SoontobeOutnumbered · 05/08/2012 14:13

How about Verity?

I know one in her thirties and one who is 3, and it seems to suit all ages.
