What are your opinions on Kal?

Surname is vv long, greek, 6 syllables (impossible basially for others to pronounce) and starts with a L (15 letters)

Any other options of short Boys names?
(as a nanny many are out as have many charges)

Def not - Luke, Max, Leo, Jack, Jake, Ari due to above

greek connection maybe but mainly English as has the worlds longest greek surname!

strawberrypenguin · 29/07/2012 19:39

Well Sean Bean was in game of thrones! (Ned Stark)

Trills · 29/07/2012 19:39

Game of Thrones names that are not awful:
Jon
Rob (optional second B)
Robert
Edward (optional Ned)
Brandon
Rick (optional ON)
Tom (optional MEN)

How about Theo or Albi (Albert)?

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 29/07/2012 19:43

Then why not use Kai, op. It's a name given to boys in Germany and here (Switzerland).

I know a gorgeous work colleague called Kai.

Jenski · 29/07/2012 19:44

Kai means dog in Cornish...

CaseyShraeger · 29/07/2012 19:44

Kal just sounds as thoigh it ought to be Cal. I think you'd have problems with spelling from people who'd heard it and people who saw it written would misread as Kai. I agree that Hal is nice.

Um...

Theo
Toby
Flynn
Joel (maybe not if last name starts with an L)
Tom
Joe
Sam
Seth
Sean
Owen
Alex
Rory
Finn
Gus

Cross-posted with lots of people. Oh Lord, yes, he'd be Kal L. I wouldn't go there...

spoonsspoonsspoons · 29/07/2012 19:47

I would avoid anything ending in L if your surname starts with L.

CaseyShraeger · 29/07/2012 19:51

On a GoW link, you could get away with Argo, I think.

Badgerina · 29/07/2012 20:28

Kal makes me think of Superman whose real name is Kal-El. But maybe that's because I am an enormous geek? Blush

madaboutmadmen · 29/07/2012 21:01

Cai is a name in its own right, Welsh (may have other origins too). It's from Welsh legend, he was an officer in King Arthur's court. Very popular in Wales, but definitely with a C as there's no K in the Welsh language alphabet.

forevergreek · 29/07/2012 21:18

I kinda like the superhero connection :)

forevergreek perhaps you should change your screen name to foreverGEEK Grin

You'd get on with my DH - he wanted Kal-El because of the Superman connection.

Friends of ours are having a daughter a few months after our son is due, theyre calling her Robyn. DH says we're duty bound to call our DS Batman... Confused

Sabriel · 30/07/2012 18:35

We knew a Kal but it was actually spelt Kalle.

NarkedRaspberry · 31/07/2012 18:44

Theo is nice.

Lannie33 · 31/07/2012 20:07

Love Kal. Go for it!!!
But i might be biased. My brother is Kalev and we call him Kal. We're Scando (scandinavian).

forevergreek · 31/07/2012 20:14

Thanks everyone
Re Kai- I don't like as reminds me of kaiser aka hitler!!
