I simply cannot make up my mind there is so much choice out there! I seem to like granny chic names or something a little quirky! So this is what we have came up with could you please rate them!! Thanks in advance.....

Clementine nn CiCi
Violet nn ViVi
Beatrice nn BiBi
Juno
Jemima but hate Jem or Jemma maybe nn MiMi
Penelope afraid this may get super popular thanks to the Kardashians

Love clementine!

rubyslippers · 22/07/2012 19:03

Your top three would be mine

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2012 19:04

I only like Juno. Maybe Beatrice, but Bea rather than Bibi.

ellesabe · 22/07/2012 19:04

In order of preference I would say:

Jemima
Penelope
Juno
Violet
Beatrice
Clementine

I have a Jemima and she is never called Jem or Jemma. Some of her baby friends have started to say 'Mima' though as the J is difficult to pronounce.

exoticfruits · 22/07/2012 19:04

Clementine.

MrsJohnDeere · 22/07/2012 19:18

Clementine
Beatrice

Not keen on the others. Don't like your NNs for the 2 names I do like on the list. The Clementines I know are known as Clem, and the Beatrice's as Bea, which are much nicer IMHO.

MammaTonic · 22/07/2012 20:06

Hi Luella, here's my verdict:

Clementine/ CiCi - I love the name Clementine and CiCi is an unusual NN (i would have thought more for Cecelia/Cecile/Cecily/Celine). No problem with it, though Wink

Violet/ViVi - I like Violet, but am not 100% struck on it; it's not cute enough or my tastes. ViVi is a nice NN, but I prefer some of your other choices.

Beatrice/BiBi - I appreciate that Beatrice is a beautiful, classic name, but it doesn't really do it for me. Personally, I'd be inclined go with Bibi as a name on its own. If I am correct (and I think I am), Bibi is Persian for 'lady of the house'.

Jemima/MiMi - Both lovely

Juno - Yeugh, no

Penelope - Yeah! Dont give the Kardashians a second thought. Penelope's not that unusual; there won't be annautomatic connection between Penelope ad them. This is the name I'd choose.

HTH,

Violet is too close to violent for me. Really don't like Juno or Penelope.
Absolutely love Clementine, Beatrice and Jemima though.

newby2 · 22/07/2012 21:13

Jemima is really sweet and clementine, but always have vision of a donkey holding a flower when I think of Clementine! Don't like the others Im afraid.

LuellaLovesLavender · 22/07/2012 21:19

Thanks for the repsonses so far its great to get other peoples perspective! I defo like Bea as a nn for Beatrice also, as for Clementine i realise that CiCi is a bit of a stretch for a nn but I really dislike Clem/Clemmie as nn. ellesabe would you mind if your little Jemima got Jem or Jemma for short or do you have to actively discourage it?? I love Jemima but that is really the only drawback i have....i like MiMi or Mima Smile

All lovely!

birdofthenorth · 22/07/2012 21:45

I like Violet and Jemima a lot. Juno I like too but it always seems a bit incomplete somehow... I think I'd prefer it as a nn for Juniper!

LiteraryMermaid · 23/07/2012 12:02

Lots of good choices here!

Clementine - have a love/hate relationship with this name - I either think it's wonderful, or far too self-conciously posh. CiCi a step up from Clemmie as a nn, imo.

Violet - Really nice. Possibly a bit faddy though, with plenty of celebrity babies being given this name.

Beatrice - I can see why people like it - it's classy and different without being too 'try-hard'. Despite this, I've always struggled to like it for some reason - seems a bit 'heavy'-sounding to me. Much prefer Bea to Bibi.

Juno - love, but fear it may be a trendy/flash in the pan sort of name! Maybe as nn for Juniper?

Jemima - Sweet, but a bit too frilly for me.

Penelope - Quite like this, but dislike nn Penny.

Would personally go for either a combination of Clementine Violet/Violet Clementine, or Juno/Juniper if you're after something a bit more 'out there'!

Littlecherublegs · 23/07/2012 12:06

In order of preference:

Beatrice
Violet
Jemima
Clementine
Penelope
Juno

Actually, Violet Beatrice is nice!

shimmy0 · 23/07/2012 12:24

Sorry why on earth would you say vivi and cici, mimi etc? I know I wouldn't want a nickname like that and it's been said before nicknames don't go to plan they happen. I would have been embarrassed as a kid had my mum called me vivi, cici or mimi or bibi in front of my friends..

shimmy0 · 23/07/2012 12:26

Beatrice
Jemima
Penelope
Violet
Clementine
Juno

By the way isn't the song about Clementine about a suicide? Not the Mark Owen one, the rat pack one.

MammaTonic · 23/07/2012 12:31

To be fair, shimmy the NNs that the OP is proposing seem to be shortenings of the names she has stated (slightly different to a NN, I think). She has also said that she doesn't really like conventional shortenings of some of her name choices, hence her alternative ideas.

Whilst I agree that NNs happen naturally, I think that the OPs shortened name choices reflect her tastes; shortened variances of what she wants to call her child.

bradbourne · 23/07/2012 12:42

If you don't like the nicknames "Clem" or "Clemmie", then don't call your dd Clementine. Similarly with Jemima, you may never call your dd "Jem", but there's no guarantee that no-one else will.

FWIW, I like Penelope and Beatrice best from your list.

lisianthus · 23/07/2012 12:47

I'm not too fussed about Clementine (can't bear the song), but I don't hate it and the others are gorgeous, particularly Juno and Beatrice

shimmy0 · 23/07/2012 12:53

Clem and clemmie are much less embarrassing nicknames than Cici. Gigi, Cici, Fifi, Mimi etc are cute if your calling your pet cat or dog but not a child. By all means call her something like this when your at home alone with just your family but just to prevent embarrassment I would leave off saying it in front of others.

MardyBra · 23/07/2012 12:58

Cut and paste without reading other reactions so as not to get influenced. Nice list but not sure about nicknames.

Clementine nn CiCi - Lovely but prefer Clem or Clemmie. Cici makes me think of Cecily

Violet nn ViVi - lovely name, but hate ViVi

Beatrice nn BiBi - lovely name, but again not keen on this i-i nn business. And why do you put double capitals in them all. Bea is lovely

Juno - feels a bit "try hard". The others are better classics.

Jemima but hate Jem or Jemma maybe nn MiMi. I've always had an irrational dislike of Jemima. So not keen.

Penelope - nice enough. But prefer the first three.

minipie · 23/07/2012 13:02

Clementine nn CiCi - Not that keen and she WILL be called Clem or Clemmy.
Violet nn ViVi - nice
Beatrice nn BiBi - nice
Juno - ok, a bit faddy
Jemima but hate Jem or Jemma maybe nn MiMi - ok but she will be Jem at some point
Penelope afraid this may get super popular thanks to the Kardashians - I don't think Kardashians will have an effect really. Nice name.

Ok this is rude but it made me laugh, call her Penelope so you can call her PiPi.

GnocchiNineDoors · 23/07/2012 13:14

NNs are something that as much as you want to control you really really cannot.

People will (including you) develop random ranges of nicknames for whatever you call your child. My DD has a one syllable name, literally impossible to shorten any more, and she never ever gets it but instead is called one of about 20 nicknames, all of which I really have no control over.

Go for a name which you love as it is, and then learn quickly to accept that she will be called something else by nearly every one else.

Your NNs aside, here's what I think of your names:
Clementine - lovely
Violet - dislike
Beatrice - LOVE
Juno - wanted but not brave enough. Like
Jemima - is actually MY nickname in real life and like it however it will get shortened to Jem / Jembo / Jembolina (yet more NNs of mine of which I have no control over)
Penelope - not keen.
