I am really struggling with a name for DC2 due very soon. Big sister is Isabella which although I know is very popular we both loved and still love. We have boys names sorted (phew) but would love some more girls names suggestions.
Thanks.

I have an Isabel (we discussed Isabella but went with Isabel in the end) and her little sister is Charlotte (often shortened to lottie).

CaringMum28 · 21/07/2012 10:38

Both the Isabel and Isabella I know have a lottle sister called charlotte X

There will be LOTS and LOTS of people having a big sister Isabella because Isabella has been a VERY popular girls' name recently.

In my opinion names don't need to match. Choose a name YOU love, regardless of what others have chosen for their children.

shimmy0 · 21/07/2012 13:23

The whole matching name thing reminds me of Edward Scissor hands, where the people all drive the same type of car and live in the same type of house and the grass is all the same length etc and no one truly differs or is allowed to differ from anyone else.
I hope it doesn't get to the point where people automatically say- if your name is Mary, then your younger sister must be called Jane.

I agree that names don't need to "match", but surely if you like a certain name then something similar to that name will be to your taste.

I seem to like names that are quite ordinary, classic, well known eg:

Isabel(la)
Charlotte
Amy
Sophia
Emily
James
George
William etc

Something like Ptolemy or Araminta would not be to my taste, plus TBH, siblings called Jane and Esmerelda (for example) sounds a bit odd as Jane is quite a plain name and Esmerelda sounds quite fancy! :o

Imogene and Lydia are my friends 2 girls after her Isabella

shimmy0 · 21/07/2012 17:45

I have never once heard two brothers or two sisters names and thought the 2 names don't go together. They are not naming the same person, they are naming two individuals.

Groovee · 21/07/2012 22:23

I've met a number of people who have children in the same order who have the same names yet they haven't met until school. There's 5 families at school where you have to use the last name to check which family you're asking about.

Mirage2012Olympics · 21/07/2012 22:28

We have Isabella and Jessica. Both apparently 'popular' but not around our way, they are the only ones in their school.

Shimmy - i once knew a family who had 2 girls called Christine and Ruth - which I thought sounded strange together given that one was Jewish sounding and the other Christian. They also had 2 sons both called William after their Dad but one was known as David and the other was Billy - it was a bit bizarre, but the younger William ended up being tragically killed in a car accident.

Geranium3 · 22/07/2012 22:37

Littlecherublegs · 23/07/2012 12:47

Lydia
Amelia
Christina
Sophia

minipie · 23/07/2012 12:58

boyfallingoutofthesky · 23/07/2012 17:56
